If your a working actor and making movies, why is it necessary to be a Tough Guy. You probably have the coolest job (if you can call it a job) get paid very well, go to where ever the film takes you, and you get play pretend.
So why does Russell Crowe have to have a Brawl in a resturant in London? There are probably others but RC has been in the news pretty regularly, so he’s the only one i can think of.
What’s up with that.
Being an actor does not necessarily confer social mores, any more than being a printer does.
Plus, you’re entitled to extraordiary consideration in all areas, right? I mean, aren’t you rich, famous, and powerful in your industry? Don’t you get dozens of women basically throwing themselves at you? Don’t you then deserve to more publicly display your virility when publicly dissed in the slightest way?
I think you’ve answered your own question right there. In every profession there are going to be some jerks. Russell Crowe is (presumably) just one of those jerks who happens to be an actor. You probably haven’t read lately about Pierce Brosnan or Tom Hanks getting into a bar brawl. Similarly, you read about actors getting into brawls, but not about the lawyers, plumbers, professors, PC techs, etc. (or if you read about the brawls, the profession of the brawler is a minor, quickly forgotten part of the story.)
And while it might seem that being paid extraordinarily well, and having what to an outsider looks like the ultimate cool, fun job would make life endlessly happy, unfortunately that’s not the case either. Actors get angry, have relationship problems, get tired, cranky, depressed, and annoyed just like the rest of us. And some of them are no better than some of the rest of us at handling their emotions in a responsible, adult manner.
