Maybe part of the problem is that Beyonce is incredibly, sizzling, jaw-droppingly hot, and it is annoying to think she can be a talented musician as well.
At least I think that, and I want to drink her bathwater.

The problem with Beyonce is the problem all of music is facing now. With album sales plummeting, you have to make up your money losses by creating personas that you can convert into endorsements and stuff like perfumes. These personas have to be easily saleable, and that means something that’s showy without actually being distinct. Music acts are manipulating their voices to sound like everyone else (for example), which means individual artists are much less distinctive. Could you imagine Aretha Franklin or Al Green worrying about their “brand”? For that matter, Beyonce’s work with Destiny’s Child shows much more emotional richness and quality of vocal work than her solo work.
And to the people who say “pop music always been what sells”, that is true. But the craftmanship of 60s pop records showed their creators had much more pride in their creation. The difference between a Lady Gaga and a Fifth Dimension record is the difference between a McDonalds and your favorite local restaurant. Both places want to make a lot of money. The first one, however, is focus grouped to appeal to the blandest mainstream tastes. The second one is the work of people who want to make something they are proud to put their name on, and will work until they are the best products they can make.
I think she’s pretty and all, but what I can’t figure out is how she changes sizes faster than some people change clothes.
In some pictures she looks pretty fit and then I’ll see a picture of her where she looks about four sizes bigger. I’m assuming she uses corsets or some kind of minimizer, but dayum I had no idea they could make such a difference for someone.
That is airbrushed to hell and back. She is not that small.
Actually, I think people are insulting her singing incorrectly —she is a talented (and well-trained) singer. She is not, I surmise from the very little I hear from her, a talented musician.
You stole my thunder. I was gonna come in and make some joke about how it’s only pop when white people do it. It was gonna get big laughs!
Anyway, Beyonce sucks, pretty much everything she’s ever done has been terrible, but I *still *like that song “Crazy in Love.” You wanna fight about it?
Being able to sing and having a pretty voice are two different things. My problem with her is just that I don’t find her voice pretty. Sure she can stay on pitch and hit all the notes. There’s a stridency to her voice that happens often, especially when she’s singing loudly within her most comfortable range, that I find grating. It’s her voice, and she can’t do anything about it.
