And we have had a female Prime Minister in Australia, and so has the UK and so has Canada, so has even India and Pakistan. Somehow this has not resulted in all males becoming emasculated betas subservient to Women. It’s obvious Scott Adams has issues, but it’s embarrassing that he chooses to make such a public spectacle of those issues.
And I’ll even give him a pass if Tim Kaine becomes President due to Clinton dying/incapacitated/resigning/impeached, and carry the bet forward to the two Presidents after that. (However, Kaine counts if he succeeds Clinton in such a circumstance but then is re-elected President )
Canada is an (*) situation though. She sort of fell into the position when the current PM resigned. She had the job about five months before getting crushed in the next election.
Kim Campbell.
Canada’s never elected a Prime Minister who wasn’t a white guy. Most of them rich white guys.
I wouldn’t say Campbell fell into the job. The reason she won the leadership was that she campaigned hard behind the scenes in the Tory party, before Mulroney announced he was retiring. By the time he did announce and other possible candidates started sniffing around for support, they found that she had pretty much sewn up the support from within the party, making it very difficult for anyone else in the party to run against her. (Mmmm - who else does that sound like? someone in the news right now… ;)) Of the five candidates at the convention, she got 48% on the first ballot, and won on the second ballot.
The fact that she lost the election so decisively is more an indictment of Mulroney than of her, since he so thoroughly alienated the conservatives in Quebec who left and formed the Bloc québécois, and the conservatives out west who bolted for the Reform, that the PC Party fractured forever.
She only got the job because the PM stepped down. She was never elected Prime Minister, or more precisely never led her party to victory. Yes, she accomplished winning the party leadership but it’s not the same. So while “fell into it” might be a little harsh, I still think an asterisk is appropriate.
In this post he cites the estate tax as the first reason why he endorses Trump: http://blog.dilbert.com/post/150919416661/why-i-switched-my-endorsement-from-clinton-to
Perhaps that’s his main motivation behind all this. He might believe that he can influence the election enough to get Trump elected and let his family keep his wealth. I’m not sure how much influence he really has, though outside of an occasional TV interview. Wasn’t his comic most popular in the 90’s? I’m not sure how many people read his blog. I hadn’t heard of the blog until recently.
Eh, one more otherwise talented enough entertainment-industry figure that fancies himself having a special insight/knowledge and who in his particular case thinks he has figured out “what’s the trick” (the whole Master of Persuasion schtick). I must imagine his visibility among nerd/cubiclefolk culture is a bit disproportionate to his general impact.
Well fuck me with a cactus! Adams was right.
I felt like an idiot after I endorsed Adam’s POV in the Cafe Society thread. It was clear that wiser heads would prevail, and Trump was even more of a trainwreck than he first appeared.
But no, Adam’s wacko worldview is coming true in all of its ugly glory, and I just can’t fucking believe it. Proof, if proof were needed, that the world is an awful place full of shitty people.
I hate to say it, but Scott Adams did indeed call this before basically anyone.
Fuck.
Massive payback for the humiliation Trump experienced at that WHCA dinner.
He was right about results, but I think it’s way too much to say he was right on reasoning. Maybe results is all it takes to be “right,” but I still don’t believe in Trump’s rhetorical genius.
Yeah. Adams calls this cognitive dissonance. The result of conflict between worldview and observed reality.
That bastard has been predicting an EV landslide, and here it is. Fuck.
I again point out that “landslide” is not synonymous with “winning.” That was not a landslide.
Look up the 1980, 1984 and 1988 elections. Those are landslides.
