What's up with Funky Winkerbean?

Having read Funky Winkerbean for over 20 years now, I can’t help but notice that recently the artwork has changed, mostly for the better. It used to be a lot more cartoony, but now seems to have a much better eye for detail and composition.
Anyone know if Tom Batiuk is still drawing it, or did he suddenly decide to go back to Art School?(Not that he was a poor artist to begin with).

Chris W

It’s under discussion in this thread.

There was a sequence involving Les and Lisa that I’m sure was drawn by somebody else; neither Batiuk or Byrne, but now they’re back to Becky and-John, is it?- The comic book store owner. Byrne definitely drew these strips.

forget who is drawing it… who is writing it?

john has two dates with becky and he is gonna propose!!???!!

Yeah, that seems a bit…rushed.

I think maybe the point is going to be that he comes from a screwed up home and doesn’t have much experience with women, so he’s rushing into things.

Maybe?

Well, it’s not like he doesn’t know her. It’s just that he didn’t think she would be interested in him like that until now.

i can understand fast relationships, my parents married after knowing each other for 10 days.

2 dates just seems very odd. john seems to have jumped into a completely different star system. he has totally transformed his clothes and hair; he has sold comic books he has had for years, a rack set that had deep meaning for him, to buy a ring for becky. i have been dreading him asking her because i can see a horrible fall. warning bells have been pealing like crazy.

although a wrench has been thrown into the works today, so perhaps things will slow down a bit.

this comic strip sure has been hitting some rather tough issues.
