The Jamaican bobsled team DNQ for the last two Winter Olympic Games, but that they DNQ suggests that they still exist and are attempting to compete. Their website is rather sparse, and the last ‘news’ I’ve found there is from 2004.
Is there a place where I can keep current on their doings (if any)?
Why? They were always were and still are to whatever extent they exist, a novelty. Why not follow athletes that are actually good at the sport rather than an attraction?
As for being good, in the 1994 Lilehammer games they came in ahead of the United States, France, Sweden, Italy, and Russia, among others. I’m sure they don’t think of themselves as ‘an attraction’.
You’re only *interested * because they are of African decent from a country (Jamaica) without a strong Winter Olympic/Bobsled tradition, and the fictional film made about them for these very reasons. Their best ever finish was 14th, as you note in Lilehammer. That makes them an attraction, a one-time novelty, not a contender at all. If I recall correctly, their organization could not even afford to buy a bobsled this year.
Qualifying for the bobsled is apparently more difficult than in the past. So they may have trouble making it in the future as well, unless they can find a beer company willing sponsor them for various races.
If you can’t wait for 2014 for their latest attempt at the bobsled, Jamaica has an entry in the Iditarod.
boilercake, the objective of GQ is to provide answers to people’s questions, not tell they why they shouldn’t be interested. If you can’t make a contribution to a thread, then don’t post a reply. No warning issued, but don’t do this again.
MOD, if you review my last post, you will perhaps note a contribution: the Jamaican team could not even purchase a bobsled for the last Olympics, that, rather definitely, is “What’s Up” with the team.
Perhaps, but the gist of your posts was that the OP was wrong to even be interested in the team. I note that you have received a previous warning for other inappropriate comments in GQ. I strongly recommend that you refrain from this kind of response in the future.
