I’ve seen advertisements from both sides. There are some disagreements about “Open Skies” arrangements. The WSJ has an opinion piece here that is critical of the U.S. carriers. But I still don’t feel I’m grasping it fully.
It seems like the U.S. carriers say the Gulf carriers have an unfair advantage due to subsidies, and therefore the U.S. government should restrict the Gulf airlines’ access to U.S. routes. Do I have that right? That sounds reasonable, although the WSJ piece I linked to says the U.S. carriers are also subsidized. But the link they use to back that up doesn’t seem to support the claim. I am confused.
If anyone more knowledgeable about this topic would care to chime in, I would appreciate it.
I’m going to immediately report this and ask a mod to weigh in re: forum choice. The topic lends itself to GD, but I like GD OPs to have more content.
