Whats up with using Saddam Hussein's first name?

Why do you suppose it is that the media, and as a result everyone else, refers to him as “Saddam” and not Hussein?

Nobody in the media refers to “George” or “Jacque” or “Vladi”. Even the leader of North Korea isnt refered to as “Jung Il”.

Is there some reason?

“Saddam” means ‘he who confronts.’ Sounds right.

Because “George”, “Jacque” and “Vladi” haven’t got any pizzaz. In the case of Bush there is “W” and Dubya. If someone said “Osama” would you wonder who it was? If they said “Jacque” would you? Do you know who “Napolean” was, or “Attila” or how about “Adam”?

[ul] [sup]How about that “Presley” cat?[/sup][/ul]

Been here nearly two years and still haven’t learned what the search function is for?

Why Saddam? Why not Hussein?
Why is Saddam Hussein often called just “Saddam”?

and plenty more. Not exactly a subject for debate either is it?
