What's up with X-Men Evolution?

Maybe he doesn’t want to set a bad example?

What do you teach?
Art.

Just cause a guy can heal himself from practically anything, doesn’t mean he should always take risks. Pain is pain whether you can heal it or not, and I’d imagine Logan has enough of it. Last night’s was good, funny and with a nice tiny twist at the end. Stupid Spyke.

I realize that Wolvie is wearing safety gear so as not to give a bad message to the impressionable young viewers, but crikey. As I recall from the comic books (and I was never really hardcore into comics, and it’s been a few years since I’ve read one), his only motorbike safety gear would be a cigar. Same with the movie (although I think he wore the seatbelt in the RX8 in X2. But that makes sense, since it holds you in the seat better for high performance driving).

We’ve all done things that are painful but fun (most any sport), and since Logan’s healing ability is so much higher than ours, I’d assume that he’d be willing to take more risks. Of course, we all know what they say about assuminptions…

And because he learned his lesson WRT seatbelts in the first movie.

Gotta agree with that last part. Let’s see, if you’re a young mutant who’s power is starting to go out of control, causing severe physical disfigurement, who do you turn to? Your friends and family, who happen to live at an institute which specializes in helping young mutants control their powers, or a bunch of strangers who live in a sewer?

I’m glad to see I’m not the only person over the age of 10 following this series

That’s not entirely true. He did wear a cowboy hat quite often.

I’ve only seen a few episodes, but I like it. I like the animation (it’s a hell of a lot smoother than the Fox cartoon was), and I like the student focus. Especially when they brought in the New Mutants (for lack of a better term). The inclusion of Berserk is rather interesting, seeing as the only thing I remember him doing in the comic is escaping from the Murauders, killing a couple of police officers, and getting shot dead.

And having Collosus and Gambit working with Magneto. Again, rather interesting. The last episode I watched dealt with Magneto and his crew trying to stop Mastermind(?) from getting a key to help release Apocolypse and screwing it up. Has that storyline progressed any? I’m really interested to see how they handle the Big A (he’s my favorite X-Villain).

I like the art style of the new one much better than the old one and yes, Spyke was a dink to go off like that. Btw it’s good how they made his spikes seem to be made out of keratin just like fingernails are and they didn’t go too overboard with how much of it he can produce.

Actually I liked how it showed how not all the X-Men are cute/handsome and how an “ugly” mutant might want to run away. That said, I still didn’t like him. The twist (I thought) was that the bad guy didn’t immediatley agree to mend his ways at the end, but instead started thinking about making money doing intentionally what he’d been doing accidentally (i.e. making something that killed mutants). Also, the idea that anything a mutant does would have to be scrutinized because they might be using their powers, even unintentionally. Granted, this might not be a news flash for some, but it was something that, like Cyclops’ “blindness”, that I’d just never thought of before.

Also, Kitty driving was pretty funny.

I thought the same thing until he went to live with the Morlocks last night. However, I still don’t care for his interaction with Storm at all, and in general I prefer comic book/old cartoon Storm.

Speaking of storm, her power levels in this show drive me nuts. She doesn’t so much control the weather as she produces wind from her fingertips. In that episode where they’re trying to save Alex and Scott Summers in the midst of all those water tornados, I was amazed at how little Storm could actually do.

I liked the little bit of Rogue/Gambit interaction the first time they met up, though I really miss Rogue with Ms. Marvel’s powers.

Oh, and another thing - this show has some serious issues with costume designs. Jean Grey’s, in particular, is absolutely hideous. A huge green triangle on an ugly black jumpsuit with some kind of bracelet on one arm? Yetch. Ditto goes for the entire Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, with their chunky body armor and Avalanche’s upsidedown salad bowl helmet.

On the whole, though, I like this show a lot more than I used to since I’ve been watching it consistantly on Cartoon Network. Now if they’d just release the Fox series on DVD in its entirety…

Actually I like the fact that Rogue is not a flying indestructable powerhouse. I think it creates more story potential. Swiping Mystique’s and Magneto’s memories (and using the information), Magneto vs. Rogue with the same powers, Rogue “borrowing” Cyclops’ or the Beast’s powers when they get knocked unconcious…all of those were interesting storylines that I have a hard time picturing the uber-Rogue of the comics participating in.

Rogue zapping Juggernaut was a bit surprising, I admit, although it makes sense in the context of “Evolution” where Juggernaut is actually a mutant.

Yeah, that’s pretty stupid-looking…

One other little nitpick, what is the deal with Beast’s nose? they went and gave him a big old honker.

I must agree with everyone’s opinion of Spyke. He’s clearly the “Wesley Crusher” of the series. Only not as competant.

“But I like movies!” Shut UP! Cripes, even his accent is annoying!

Well, I haven’t seen the show, but from the description it sounds exactly like Avalanche’s uni from the books.

Judge for yourself, White Lightning:

Actually, it’s a massive improvement, from what I remember of the fashion crime he wore in the comics.

Why does that matter? Rogue’s zapped plenty of nonmutants over the years.

Sam Hell
IIRC, the first Marvel Year In Review dealt with that issue. Northstar won some Olympic gold medals for skiing. It was later revealed that he was a mutant whose powers included flight andsuperhuman speed. His medals were confiscated. Northstar never intentionally used his powers to win(‘Had I done so, I would have been through the finish before the starting gates had finished opening.’). But, not even he is sure if he subconsciously used his powers.

Mystique-
Okay, they made her more reptilian due to the films. But why did they switch her outfit? In the comics, Mystique has long worn a clinging white tunic, dress, shift thingy. The neckline is modestly high. The hem is respectably below the nee. However, the dress is both very tight and completely sideless. For this reason, she accessorizes with a stylized belt of metallic skulls. The last few episodes I saw, Mystique was wearing a tube top and mini skirt of what appeared to be black leather
  ! I’m stunned and glad to live in an age in which a saturday morning cartoon can include a group of teenage boys living in a house under the supervision of an older woman who wears leather and is a strict disciplinarian.

Blob-“What’s for dessert?”

Toad- “I asked Mystique. She said we would only get dessert if we were would good boys. So, I asked her what dessert was. I think she meant Jello.”

Blob- “Wha’d she say?”

Toad-“She said it was a special dessert that was blue and would quiver on my long, green tongue. Then, she licked her lips and winked at me.”

Blob-“Yeah. Blue. Quivering. Gotta be jello.”

Has she ever zapped Juggernaut in the comics, though? I would have thought that the whole “super-phenomenal mystic power of Cytorrak” thing would have been too much for her to absorb. (Whereas in “Evolution” Juggernaut is just a mutant, albeit an insanely powerful one.) I could be wrong, though.

In the early X-Men comics, it took Cyclops a few minutes to fully “recharge” his optic blasts after using them at full power. (In some early issues, firing a full-power optic blast would even make Cyclops get physically tired!)
Oh – and with regard to what Cyclops wasn’t able to do to the wolf, the word you’re looking for here is faze, not phase. “Phase” is what Kitty Pryde does.

I didn’t realize you were asking specifically about Juggernaut. I’d have to check my collection. But, OTOMH I’m guessing she has. Touching the ruby of Cytorak didn’t give Cain limitless power or anything close to it. He’s superhumanly tough and strong, but IIRC not on the level of the Hulk. In what the cover proclaimed was the Last Marvel Team-Up, Juggernaut goes back to the temple and retrieves the ruby. He gives it to his old chum, Black Tom (Banshee’s brother, Siryn’s uncle). Cain apparently thought that touching the ruby would give Tom powers equal to his own. Instead, the Juggernaut’s power was split between them. Cain got shorter and weaker. Tom busted his clothing Hulkstyle as he grew taller and more muscular. This would suggest that the ruby gives a limited amount of energy. BTW-At story’s end-Tom was back to his original powers, Cain Marko was in possession of the full power of the Juggernaut, and Cain had seemingly thrown the ruby into a low earth orbit.

BTW- This Drives Me Insane
The X Men live at a school. A school. Why do they commute to the local high school?
Many similiar questions have been dealt with. The school principal, nurse, and inevitably the students, know Rogue has a ‘skin condition’ and shouldn’t be touched. I’m sure there’s some similiar explanation for Scott’s glasses. Kurt has an image inducer. The Toad is just ugly.
But hasn’t anybody wondered why people who live at a school come to town 5 days a week, to go to school?

I like X-Men Evolution. I’ve been watching it consistently since “The Day of Reckoning” two-parter. Basically, I’ve been watching it for a little more than a week. From 9:30 to 11:00 pm, I’m tuned in to Cartoon Network. I got X-Men Evolution, Futurama, and then Family Guy.

From what I’ve seen of this show, I like it. I really like Nightcrawler and Shadowcat (the later because she’s just drawn so cute). I like the art, and I really like the storylines that go through it. Yeah, it has a few problems, but so does just about everything else on television. I find it entertaining.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, though. Prior to X-Men Evolution, my only experience with the X-Men has been from the first movie. I never read any of the comics; the closest I came was knowing a guy in band who read them. So I have absolutely no idea how it holds up to the comics or if any of the characterizations are accurate.
