Ya can’t get away from this-now sherpa guides are fighting with climbers!
I think the whole concept of climbing a mountain needs definition-we cannot be having rumbles over this.
Ed Hillary would probably be disgusted-what has climbing sunk to?
What’s your point Ralph? While climbers are generally a cooperative lot, there are plenty of past instances of climbers getting into conflicts all over the world, many where altitude wasn’t a factor. We know you hate the hoopla surrounding Everest, but for better or worse bad behavior isn’t exclusive to that mountain or to the current era.
I couldn’t imagine risking my life and spending so much money just to climb a mountain that many before me already have.
These kinds of incidents are not without precedent.

Shodan
Maybe if we had helicopters to get to the top, this wouldn’t be an issue.
Or a ski lift.

In fact, forget the mountain!
You may know that Ueli Steck is one of the most famous and respected mountaineers in the world today. He’s particularly known for rapid solo, unroped ascents of severe routes. His 2008 climb of the north face of the Eiger, done in an astounding 2:48, was a landmark achievement.
Here’s a link to his website, where a reasonably complete description of the incident is posted.
I’m waiting for the first guy to parachute down on to the peak of Everest.
Could be a long wait, in view of the equipment + skills + conditioning needed to safely walk down from there.
(I suppose you could arrange to be met by Sherpas who’d take care of you.)
I’d be more impressed with the first person to lug 500lb of trash down off the mountain that the other climbers leave on Everest.
It’s been done many times.

Sadly, there’s still plenty to go.
No, you just bring a second parachute and then jump down off the peak.

I’ll just stick to looking at the mountain from my T.V. thanks.
Does that includecorpses?
Seems that the three climbers whose lives were threatened are doing an admirable job of threading the needle between “recognizing the larger social-cultural resentments which underly the incident” and “thankful that the authorities seem to be making sure that individual perpetrators are held accountable for their actions”.
