What's wrong with my DVD player?

I have an RCA DVD player, model RC5220P. When I try to play DVDs I get a message saying; Player: Problem #9 detected, Disc: Unknown Disc Type, and ROM Version: AT1.6. The same message comes up when I run a test. I no longr have the owner’s manuel and the RCA website is no help. Can someone please tell me what’s wrong?

What kind of disc are you trying to play? Do you have a way to play the same disc in another player?

All of my DVDs have stoped working (along with a rented Blockbuster one). They’re all Region 1 NTSC.

I’d say it’s time to buy a new DVD player. They’re really not worth repairing in 99% of cases, since they’re so cheap to buy. Barring someone coming in here with a magic Reset Code, there’s one thing you can try before tossing it. Unplug the player and let it sit for a few hours, then plug it back in and try it. Sometimes this works to recover from a bad mode. Sometimes it doesn’t. But it never hurts to try.

Thanks Q.E.D., it worked!
