So my MIL picked up this gate. for when she watches the baby. A few days ago I was setting it up for her and having a hard time. If you look at the picture it has “Perfect Fit” which is a thingy (for lack of a better word ) that kicks out at the top and in and the bottom to accomadate for the base molding. So I’m trying to get it set up and it seems to be about a 1/2 inch short at the top, the exact problem “Perfect Fit” is supposed to take care of. My thought was that her molding was just too wide, but no, it’s the same as the molding in the picture.
So by looking at the picture, can anyone tell me why the gate works in the picture, but not at her house???
The room in the picture is the only room I’ve ever seen in my entire life that doesn’t have a molding on one wall. See that, it’s there on the right side, but the carpenters seem to have left it out on the right side.
It’s not just me, right? That really dosen’t make sense.
But wait, I see what you’re saying, but why would it matter? Surely there’s more than a full inch of swing, and if you have half inch baseboards on both sides, it can be fit by one moveable part, no? The gate will be a little crooked looking, but it doesn’t need two swinging sides to work.
Maybe I’ll try putting it in there crooked, but the problem is that since both bumpers on one side are fixed, it doesn’t matter how much swing there is, if one of the fixed bumpers is on the molding, the other won’t reach.
Now that I think about it, the easiest solution would be to just move the bumers (on both sides) about about 6 inches. For 99% of the users that should clear the base board just fine.
I suspect that it’s a fake doorway in the ad agency’s photo studio, and they only realized after posing that the bumper would clash with the baseboard. For one thing, the door looks wider than normal.
However, my kitchen has a molding on only one side of the door. The other side has only about 4 inches before it hits the dishwasher, so I guess they figured no chairs would bump the wall on that side, so no protection was needed. Or they just overlooked it because it was small.
I just realized that there’s no bumper shown on the top right corner, which seems wrong.
So maybe the whole picture is fake, including the cabinets behind, and put together in Photoshop.
