To continue the aside, I’ve heard him say that and agree completely. I really wanted to like my Treo. There are some things that make me really want the Treo Pro and that really piss me off about the iphone. but until they can get to that level of “just works” WITHOUT me having to be a software engineer to do what I want, they lose, plain and simple.
What don’t you like about the Treo? Admittedly I haven’t had another smartphone so maybe I don’t know what I’m missing, but I’ve had no particular problems with my Treo Pro aside from getting it connected via bluetooth to my laptop, but that was a laptop issue.
I had the Treo 750 before I got the iPhone, so I haven’t actually used the Pro. It looks great, inspires some nice gook lust, and I’d probably have it if I wasn’t an iPhone guy now. The 750, aside from being bulky, froze and hung ALL THE TIME. Sometimes it would randomly fail to send text messages, and you had to be careful to make sure you actually quit programs through the manager or they would continue hogging system resources. I’m 99% sure that most of these issues were WinMobile issues and not the fault of the phone. I dug around and ended up flashing the phone with a home-cooked ROM of WinMobile 6.1 which helped a lot. But this highlights my main issue…I shouldn’t have to do this.
Admittedly, I’m not using it for business or enterprise stuff, but the iPhone does what I want it to do for the most part satisfactorily (and I like not having to worry about losing the stylus). It is a great all-around device…ipod, gps, email, web taht really does just work…and unlike most WinMobile devices, it gets substantially improved regularly…features added, etc…
