Good? Bad? Never heard of it?
I find their reviews a pretty even mix of keen insight and insufferable reverse snobbery. I took them out of my daily feeds a while ago because the latter started outpacing the former, at least IMO.
I never heard of Slant Magazine.
Can you please tell us why it is named “Slant”?
I can think if several possibilities. But I’d like to hear your opinion.
The first thing that strikes me is the “call for writers”, which goes “Slant Magazine is currently looking for new film, music, TV, DVD/Blu-ray, video game, book, and theater writers for reviews, interviews, lists, retrospectives, and festival coverage. We’re unable to pay contributors at this time…”
And so no, I have a negative opinion of it. Pitchfork pays, did you know that? Slant seems to be competing with the AV Club, which is silly because there are only so many indie pop reviews you can read before it gets boring. Judging by the Wikipedia entry it’s going to end up as a section of part of a larger website at some point.
That’s very helpful. Thanks.
