What's Your (Baseball) Team?

It’s all about the Red Sox, baby. Of course, with Nomar out, it may be tough, but this is our year, baby… PEDRO! PEDRO! PEDRO! PEDRO!

Rockies!
or to put it in mathematical terms (Helton + Walker[sup]2[/sup]+ Cirillo + Hampton + Neagle +Astacio)/Coors field= World series

I am proud to call myself a DODGER FAN!!!

I dig the Angels, too.
[sub]and the Giants SUCK!![/sub]

GO TRIBE!!!

I was watching that Bob Costas show on HBO tonight. They got to the part at the end where a guest asks Bob 9 questions in 90 seconds. The last question was “Who will be in the World Series”.

Bob’s answer: St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians.

I used to just like Bob, but now he’s my hero.

Braves.

I love the Braves.

My sister wants to work for them when she’s older.

Did I mention we both love the Braves?

Tonight I skipped a free movie, an academic team meeting, and sat through a bad cold that’s now letting up (after four days) to watch my precious Braves beat the putrid Mets.

Oh, by the way … I kinda sorta have this passion for the Braves. People stared at me last night when I was pumping my fist in the air after Keith Lockhart’s game-winning fielder’s-choice that scored Brian Jordan.

Y’all can go on talking about how the Braves choke in the offseason . . . how many of your teams have seen so much as a world series win in the past ten years? ::sees five people raise their hands:: Yeah. How many of y’all’s teams have been to the series more than twice in the past ten years? ::sees three hands raised::

Who among you was rooting for his/her favorite team back in October of 1991? Or 1992? Or 1993-2000?

What? Only me? Wow. They must be something.

I love the Braves.

[sub]I also like the Orioles, Red Sox, and anyone who beats the Mets or Yankees.[/sub]

In my youth it was the Pirates, but in recent years it’s gotta be the Phils. I’m so smitten I even enjoy going to see them at that ludicrous excuse for a ballpark, the Vet.

I like underdogs, and dogs don’t come much more under than this crew after last year’s utter debacle. Plus, the presence this year of Mr. Nervous Energy, i.e. Larry Bowa, promises stellar entertainment value.

Oh, did I mention that they’re 3-0?

No, please remind me. Again and again.

Go Phils!

What? No Twins fans? C’mon, we even have decent pitching this year. Hitting? Well, no. But still…

sigh The Cubs

Who, by the way, are 0-2 for the season .

And Mrs. Rastahomie is a Cardinals fan ! How’s that for delicious irony?

sigh

Yankees. Since the early 1970s. No bandwagon jumping here!

The Yanks are going to take it all this year. It’s probably the last year that the core of the recent championship teams will be playing together (Martinez, O’Neill, and Brosius will likely be gone next year) so I think they’ll be very motivated to win. But, next year . . . ?

Yanks-Cardinals in the Series. Yanks win 4 games to 3.

Die hard Cubs fan here. Have been since 84 (bandwagon jumper, I know…friggin’ Steve Garvey). I grew up watching the Big Red Machine in Cincy as a big Reds fan (living on the Ohio River, it’s kind of hard to avoid). I was always a huge Pete Rose fan (yes, he should be in the HOF. It doesn’t matter what you do outside of the game that matters. If it did, Ty Cobb, who once jumped into the stands and started beating a heckler who had no hands DURING A GAME, should not be in the HOF). When Rose went to Philly, I followed. When he went to Montreal, I couldn’t. I had to root for a team located in the US. My father (who I just lost this past January) got me hooked on the Cubs, where I have been a diehard ever since.

160-2…the streak begins!

The Brewers, Baby!

God help me…

Mets

I’ve been rooting for them since 1965. Lots of frustration, but enough miracles to make it all worthwhile.

Going back to the days when names of legends such as Wiilie Montanez, Pepe Frias, Pat Rocket, Brian Asselstein, Jeff Burroughs, Gary Matthews, Pete Falcone, Craig McMurtry and Andy Messersmith were on the roster, I have been an Atlanta Braves fan.

When the wheels fall off the cart again, and many “fans” are diving off the bandwagon, and the Braves sink to the cellar, I will continue to be an Atlanta Braves fan.

Go Team!

Hey Kepi, good to meet ya! Big time Rangers fan here, with excellent seats to tonight’s game. And there’s an A’s fan just down the hall who thinks her team’s going to walk away with the AL West. Yes, this is going to be a fun summer!

Oh, and I very much sympathize, Cubs fans. Went to several games at Wrigley when I was living in Iowa, and they were a hell of a lot of fun. If only you could figure out a way to force the Tribune to sell the team, you might have something.

[sub]But Jesus Christ, how could anyone be a fan of Steinbrenner and the Yankees? It’s like cheering for the Wehrmacht to crush Poland.[/sub]

Me. I’ve been rooting for the Team That currently Has A Better Record Than Atlanta, aka The Phillies, since about 1979.

Went to the Series in 1980 and 1993, too

I think you Athletics fans should be the most hopeful, though. I have high hopes for that team…

Die-hard Seattle Mariners fan checking in here. Started the season well taking 2 of 3 from Oakland despite the loss of A-Fraud (or is it K-Rod?).

Actually, I’m not that bitter about the departure this year of [Randy/Junior/Alex]. I’m sure that [Garcia/Cameron/Guillen] will step up and that the M’s will survive the latest loss caused by [Randy/Junior/Alex]'s need [for lots of money/to be close to home/for obscene amounts of money]. I just hope that the [Diamondbacks/Reds/Rangers] fall pitifully on their face.

Let’s see…

Diamondbacks - window of opportunity closed due to extreme age
Reds - fell flat on their faces.
Rangers - I’ve seen the pitching staff. I feel optimistic.

Here’s another hand raised.

Yankees!

Oh, and like Soup, I’ve been a fan since the early 70s.

Me. I’ve been bleeding Chicago Cub blue since 1984. I have a friend who’s a Yankee fan, though I try not to let such an obvious lack of taste affect our friendship. He asked me once how I could be a Cub fan, since they always suck. I countered that there’s never any pressure of a repeat season. If the Cubs suck, it’s okay, since everyone expects it. If his precious Yankees blow, however, Steinbrenner has an anyurism (sp).

Me too! And I’ve seen Seattle’s lineup, which makes me even more optimistic about the Rangers’ chances in the West.
