What's your Beanie Baby?

I don’t have beanies per se…but do have a smorgasbord (sp?) of stuffed pooches

http://home.revealed.net/ddwyer/pooches.jpg

that hang around my Mac…l to r would be Brutus, Fuggles, Buster, Porter

I obviously have no shame

I hate going into gift shops because I see those danged things and can’t help but think that they’re kinda…cute.
I can’t stand Beanie Babies! I hate them I hate them!

her body shifts and the bookbag she’s carrying on her back opens and a few Beanie Babies fall out

AAA!! Um, no, those aren’t mine! I was carrying them
for a friend! I was! Why don’t you believe me?

I’ve always wanted the unusual ones like the kiwi, hedgehog, skunk…

I have one of the cats, a kangaroo, a fox, and some other animal I can’t remember. My dad owns Ewey the Lamb that some lady gave him when he was in the hospital. My favorite one is this (gasp) FAKE Beanie Baby called Lulu the Duck. It’s adorable. I bought her at Virginia Beach. My mom and I walked down like more than 10 blocks to this candy store only to find out that they had run out of Beanie Babies, so we figured we’d just buy a fake one there so the trip wouldn’t be in vain.

I think it’s funny that my friend Paul got a crab Beanie Baby for his birthday one year because his family thought that he was crabby. Hehe.

I don’t know whether to be frightened…

…or to LMAO!

-SS

My first beanie was stripes the tiger - the original one - which I got about 5 years ago. I happily clipped off the tags, doodled on its nose with blue eyeliner, wrote “thelly” on its belly with permanent marker (that’s what I named it), stuck earrings through its ears and ran it through the wash a few times.

During the height of the beanie baby craze, I was flipping through a friend’s pricing book and see that in mint condition it was worth like $350 or something like that. Dammit! Was kicking myself over that one for a long time.

I also have two of the black & white cows, one half chewed up by the dog. I used to have some strange obsession with cows. I don’t know where they are anymore.

I won a Stinger the Scorpion in a claw machine about a year ago… hell with that, I say it’s a lobster. It’s sitting on top of my fish tank.

I have just two beanie babies, which sit on a shelf over the TV with assorted other small stuffies. The beanies are the calico cat (I’ve forgotten her name) and Sly the Fox.

I don’t own any official Beanie Babies, but my husband gave me a beanie Pikachu (his little face just tickles me - I’ve never actually seen the show or anything), who sits on my monitor, and I have a teenie beanie Barkley and Big Bird that I got in packages of Raisin Bran.

For Christmas I bought my husband a beanie Darth Maul - yes it is as funny as it sounds. He’s got this scary face . . . and a cute little chubby beanie body - and he’s wearing a dress. He gets to stay home because stuff that goes to my husband’s cubicle has a way of disappearing.

My favorite was a lost little unicorn I found in the road late one rainy night. I’m serious, I was driving home from a party and this little white thing was in the road, I stopped, opened my door and picked up the unicorn. I tossed it on my back dash and proclaimed it my car spirit.

My first beanie baby!

Well, my aunt got me Mystic the Unicorn for Xmas. I left the tag on only to remember her name, because I COULD save the tag, but I’d lose it, knowing me. Then I have a bunch of
beanie knockoffs. I also have one of Bartok, the bat from Anastasia.

I collect dolls, though, and I DO take them out of the boxes, which REALLY pisses off my gramma!

I have Magic the Dragon, Scorch the Dragon, Chip the Cat, Prance the Cat and Pounce that Cat. It’s not that I collect Beanies; I collect felines and dragons.

So Do I Kat. Though I only have one Beanie Baby, I didn’t find out they had Dragons until it was too late. :frowning:

I have a posable dragon guarding my computer desks, named tilde.

I have some water-color crab thing that a friend gave me for my birthday…(we’re both cancers)…and also a teddy-bear dressed as a ladybug, since I collect ladybugs.

But if I did it would be Nanook(DUH!) and the polar bear(since thats my nickname and the origin of the Nanook part of my name), who’s name escapes me at the moment. Unfortunately both were retired a long time ago and are worth WAY more than I could hope to afford.

I’ve told ya’ll about my dad Bubba the Beaniemaniac before. I love my father, but I’m thinking that it’s about time to stage an intervention or something. Not only does he collect Beanie Babies, he collects everything made by Ty. I estimate he’s spent several, if not tens, of thousands of dollars on his stuffed animal collection. Now he’s starting to collect Steiff. There goes any hope I had of receiving a large cash inheritance.

My old room at their house is their Beanie Baby sanctuary. They use an antique Chippendale china cabinet for the bears…the rest of the animals have to make due with generic antique housing. My bed is stacked 3 high with “pillow pals”. Whenever I threaten my husband with moving back in with the parents, he just laughs at me…he knows that there is no place for me to sleep. Darn it, those things have a higher standard of living than I do!

As for me, I’ve got quite a few that my parents have passed on to me. The only one I have that is remotely valuable is Germania. I like it because it’s a souvenier from here, and my sister is jealous that they gave it to me. My son likes to take them and stuff them into giant Pokeballs and play Pokemon with them. Hope the Bear…I choose you!

You’ll be totally unimpressed to know that I live a few short miles from the factory that makes all the beanie babies.

I thank you.

Not so. The beanie market has crashed (and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something). You can find Nanook on Ebay right now for $4 - $10. The polar bears are a little more expensive. The first one, Chilly, is still considered pretty rare and therefore pricey. There is a new one, Aurora, and it is coming down in price as more become available. Aurora is averaging about $8 - $15 on Ebay right now.

There’s a couple of novelty shops on my walk to work. They have display cases full of Beanie Babies in little plastic boxes with prices in the $30-40 range. I haven’t seen any sold in about a year. Should someone tell them the fad is over? :D:D

Someday, I’ll bet I’m going to be one of those women who has an entire room dedicated to her Barbie collection…
I don’t have money for Beanies, since I’m paying off my bills for the Franklin Mint Titanic Portrait Doll collection…
Teehee!

See chrisbar’s comment above. There’s a couple of stores around here that sell retired Beanies at the same price as active ones. Last time I was in, they were $5.50 at one and $5.99 at the other. Check around.

I have a purple-blue dragon with iridescent blue wings and horns that hobnobs with Magic and Scorch. He doesn’t have a name ATM.

I have a snake who I named Cecil and a parrot I named Walter. But overall, I don’t like beanies much. They’re too floppy, they get lost easily, and they’re hard to give a personality. I like straightup stuffed animals.

I just got Grace today. She’s a little bunny, yellow, with long floppy ears and closed eyes. Her
hands are actually praying…she’s so sweet, I couldn’t resist.
I’m just a SUCKER for stuffed animals.
