What's your Beanie Baby?

I’m not one of those hard-core collectors who speculate (well, aybe I should say “speculated,” the fad appears to have passed) on their value and buy up every variation of every Beanie Baby. But I’ve gotta admit they’re kind of cute (with the exception of “Stingy the Scorpion”. Lord, they stretched that one too far!). My wife got me a “Chocolate the Moose” once (moose are something of a running joke to us) and “Ants the Anteater” (I like unusual animals). I have them sitting on top of my computer (the anteater is particularly helpful for debugging). I’ve gotten her Claude the Crab (another running joke).

So…which ones do you have?

Lost Moon – From the Grateful Dead Bean Bear collection. A gift from my son. He sits atop my computer too.

I wish I was a hard-core collector, then I could have:

Betty the Boob
Virginia the Vagina, and
Traci the Crackwhore Who’d Do Anything For 5 Bucks

snort Nice “collection” there, Chief.

I have:

Velvet the Panther
Nanook the Husky
Luke the Black Lab
and Jake the Mallard Duck.

And yes, they’re all based on inside jokes I have with people. The first three are in my room, while the duck sits on my radio at work.

My kingdom for a Freudian analysis of that statement!!!

I have both of the frogs (leggs and smoochy) because I collect frogs. However, the first one was a joke, given to me by someone who knew I’d be annoyed. I think we have tracker, too (basset hound) because we own a basset hound IRL. The other ones we’ve gotten (and believe it or not, we HAVE gotten others as gifts!!!) we let our dog play with and destroy.

I bought only one for myself: The Rat. It has a cool slick tail, gotta like a stuffed rat.

I have the first and let me tell you she is worth every penny.

As for Traci . . . well, I dated her for awhile.

I have only one. I don’t know its “name,” but it is a little pug dog that Leigh-Anne got me because I like pugs. It sits on my monitor at work. I’m looking at it right now. I think perhaps it’s trying to read my mind, or maybe kill me.

SHUT UP! I did NOT mean it like that! Sheesh!!! starts laughing helplessly

Hi. My name is chrisbar and I… collect… beanie babies.
All: Hi chrisbar!

There I admitted it. I “came out.” I still do it even.
One thing I was never into it for the money. Hell, once I finally have a kid I’ll probably clip off the tags and give the beanies to my infant. {thousands of “dedicated” collectors just shuddered at that comment}

My favorite are the felines, all of them.
Velvet was my first beanie baby.
Snip reminds me of my feline friend who passed away.
Zip looks a lot like my two kitty boys.
Sneaky was the last one I bought and he’s just to cute.
I can’t wait to see India, the new tiger Ty just released.

Can’t you tell I’m still addicted?

chrisbar

A few years ago Ty released “Inky” the Octopus. Ended up getting two for my birthday and one for christmas that year.

We do clip the tags off. Really cheesed off a girl here at work. She’s collected all the Teenie Beanies from this year except for Flitter, the butterfly, which happens to be the only one I have. I took it out of the bag and clipped the tag.

Anyway, Bessie was my first. I have a thing for cows myself. And teddy bears. But other than Bessie, my favorite is Scorch the Dragon. Saint Zero gave that one to me for Mother’s Day.

A friend gave me one a while back. I don’t know what its name is, but it’s a black monkey with a white face.

I have a few of the teenie ones from Happy Meals. I have the calico cat, the cocker spaniel, the crab, the lady bug, and the fish. The lady bug lives in my car, the fish lives on the floor and is a cat toy, and the other three live on top of my computer.

I don’t own any, but my boyfriend has several. My favorite out of all he has is Roam the Buffalo. It’s just so cute, it reminds me of Yellowstone, and it can stand up on it’s own two feet.

I like the more unusual animals as well.

I have the brown moose with the orange antlers, and a black bear, both given to me by students. After appropriate oohs and aahs of appreciation, I clipped the tags. “Aargh!” the kids squealed. “Don’t you know you’re not supposed to do that, Mrs. P?” “Hmm,” I replied, “I love these animals because they’re cute and because they are special gifts from you–that is what makes them valuable to me.”

Gotta teach those kids all the freakin’ time!

Can I count the Hard Rock bears? They look like beanies. I’ve got Los Vegas and Chicago so far.

I have a hedgehog (hedgehogs are cute.), a mountain lion, the dragon, and the skunk. I think that’s it. I’m a sucker for any stuffed animal.

Weirdest souvenir to date - a two-foot stuffed hedgehog from Ireland. I should post a picture of him.

I don’t have many beanie babies, I never really did have the dedication to collect anything. My favorite beanie baby is Mooch, a black monkey with white fuzz around his face, he is the most adorable thing. It was a christmas gift from a friend this past year because of a nickname I gave to a kid in my spanish class.
I really prefer beanie buddies over beanie babies though, they’re bigger and softer and easier to cuddle with. I also happen to be mourning the loss of my adopted “child” at the moment. It was taken to the be washed and never heard from again. Originally it was Lizzy the beanie buddy, a tie dyed reddish lizard with demonic looking eyes. We renamed him Lucifer Bob Nothorian and gave him a family. I will never forget him sniffle

I own only two of the suckers, two teenies: the lobster (Pinchers, I think) and the anteater. The lobster is treated with scorn and derision. At work, where I kept him on the monitor, we used to play vicious games of catch with him and toss him around like a frisbee. He was often dropped, kicked, stepped on, and slammed into the ceiling. By contrast, the anteater is treated with love and respect. You may pay homage to the anteater by stroking his noble snout only after bowing to him. (I think the lobster secretly resents the anteater.)

hehe. It’s just my way of poking fun at the seriousness with which some people treat their beanies.

I’m somewhat tempted to pick up a third, the kiwi bird. He looks kinda nifty.

One of my co-workers bought me one - Wise, the Owl. They say it fits me
And, oddly, enough, it seems to: it has the same birthday (May 31), it’s wearing a mortarboard with an orange tassle (my high-school colors were black and orange), and everyone at work seems to think I’m ‘wise’ (bah!).
