I used to LOVE snacking after supper while watching TV. It was a bad habit of mindless eating. My go-to was potato chips and a diet coke followed by something sweet like chocolate, a cookie, etc. And I’m not talking about a few potato chips, I’d eat half of a large bag in one sitting easily. So years ago I stopped eating in between meals including after supper. Now as soon as I’m done eating I brush and floss my teeth. Nothing tastes good when your mouth is all minty and I sure don’t want to have to brush and floss again.
Smaller portions more variety. The variety shouldn’t be fixed dishes or you will burn out. Adding a scoop of yogurt and a handful of mixed nuts to a dinner helps me to fix and portion less meat and carbs.
A slice of cheddar and apple slices. Celery with peanut butter. A pickle. A few sliced of a rich meat like salami or a hardboiled egg.
Growing up was meat, potato, vegetable or a large plate of spaghetti or stroganoff. I still eat those things but the portions are like a small side.
These are GREAT suggestions. And very motivational.
I’ve decided I just canNOT stop snacking, so I’m trying to find tasty but nutritional stuff. Did a road trip with the passenger seat full of mixed nuts, dried fruit and baby carrots (… though I did buy coffee and a donut… but only one!.. on my way out of town).
Update: Right now, I’m sitting on the porch with a tall Coke No Sugar, with a shot of lime juice, half–a-dozen dashes of bitters and a shot of good brandy. Over store-bought ice cubes (we had guests last weekend).
More refreshing than my old bourbon-on-the-rocks.
