What's your earring game?

I had an appendectomy when I was 11; and one of the stiches remained for over a year. I eventually pulled it. But 30 years later, I am still able to insert a thin earing into my scar in the same place.

Not a very useful or decorative trick, but that’s my game.

My ears are pierced, but I rarely wear earrings.

I lost a bet on sports to a buddy years ago, and I made good: Under the terms of the bet, I had to have my ears pieced. Which I did, after losing the bet, (thus making good on the wager), and I wore studs for years after. My ex-wife even went so far as to gift me a pair of diamond studs, which I was proud to wear.

We broke up, she took my diamond studs, and left me with her junk jewellry. Which worked out just fine, as I could use her earrings in community theatre productions requiring pirates with hoops in their ears, among other roles. So, I did.

“Knock, knock, knock. Spoons, you’re on in five.”

“Blankety-blankety-blank, I’m trying to get this @#$% earring in. Little help?”

Somehow, I always made it.

My ears were pierced when I was either 12 or 13. My friend and I, after begging our parents for weeks, went to a department store in the mall. It was $7.99 and a pair of gold ball studs was included. That would have been in 1973-74. When more than one piercing became popular in the 80s, I pierced just my right ear above the original piercing. I did it myself with a sewing needle with a bar of soap behind it.

I could never stand to wear earrings to bed and I don’t like wearing the same earrings day after day. I have a huge collection of costume-type earrings. Hoops and dangles are my favorites. I have different metals, colors, styles, etc. I wear whatever matches my clothing. Studs are very uncomfortable when you’re on the phone so I rarely wear them. I haven’t used my second piercing hole in years.
