What's Your Favorite Ice Cream Cone? - An Inappropriate Winter MMP

Hah! My first ever MMP, inspired by learning the fact that on December 15, 1903, food cart vendor Italo Marchiony received a patent for inventing a machine that makes ice cream cones.

So what’s your favorite? Who cares if no one is thinking about ice cream at this time of year!

Discuss, or hijack away, as you please!

Not fun indeed, shoe! I hope there is more help soon, and not from bossy teenaged boys.

Love that song, btw.

First! Woot!

And I got distracted, missed the edit window!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and a chance of rain. Weather app says “Do you know what is fucking worse than rain? Wetting yourself while you’re giving a fucking presentation.” Yes, I should think it would be.

Bright Tree I’m glad to hear that Ollie has a favourite toy and hasn’t been able to rip it apart yet. Also happy that he didn’t burn his little paws on the fire. Cherry loves to bask on top of the living room radiator, we put a fleece over half of it so she could move there if she got too hot but she hasn’t used it yet.

metal mouse It says a lot about the quality of music venues in Wales as much as the attraction of the Giffard! This particular couple will also travel around to see the same band several times on tour because we’ve seen them in several different places too.

Is there really a wrong time to think about ice cream? I like all kinds of flavours, the one we have most often at home is mint choc chip although I do like a good raspberry ripple!

I’m up and logged into work, I’ve already taken ‘im indoors to the station, he’s got four more days of his contract left and he’s really happy about that. I have a few things to do this morning, and I have grocery shopping to do at lunchtime. It’s also rubbish collection day tomorrow so I’ll have to empty the bins tonight and haul the biiiig bin out to the kerb ready for the morning.

Right now, it’s time for more tea!

I’ll take chocolate chip cookie dough, please!

Currently I’m sitting here feeling incredibly guilty. I’m sitting in my chair with my zip up hoodie on, hood up, and covered with a blanket and still a little bit cold. Meanwhile MusicMan is outside doing his job and it’s 4F out there!

A double trigger from this thread took me back to:

One hot summer afternoon Mom and I took the bus downtown. We ate Chinese food at King Fong’s and then went to the Orpheum theater and saw a movie. We took the bus back to our neighborhood. We stopped at Goodrich Dairy store for Ice cream cones to eat on our four block walk home from the bus stop. I ordered pistachio ice cream because it sounded so exotic.

I remember this night like it was yesterday; the heat, my first Chinese restaurant, the movie and the ice cream on the short walk home. It was 64 years ago. I was nine years old, and the movie was The Music Man. I am sure y’all have seen it. To give this some context, remember Ronnie Howard as Winthrop in the movie. He and I are the same age.

Mom passed twenty five years ago. I watch the movie every time it rolls around on TCM, remembering the taste of pistachio ice cream. I am sure it is just the dust off of the dust falling from the ceiling fan that causes my eyes to water.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 28 (feels like 20) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 42 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is men’s night over to the church house. It’s cold enough that I guess we will have to hang in the parish hall instead of the patio tonight. We will go over early to do setup as is our wont. Until then we will stay inside and warm.

As to my favorite ice cream cone, well, I like ice cream and have yet to find a flavor I didn’t like. However, I suppose chawklit is my very favorite.

Hippie what a nice memory! I am also the same age as Ron Howard.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

It has to be a ‘99’, which is vanilla ice-cream with a ‘Flake’ (= a chocolate stick)

I like ice cream (coffee flavor, please), but I don’t like cones — waffle, sugar, whatever. Give it to me in a cup and I’ll eat it with a spoon.

My kids are both cone partisans. I gather there’s visceral satisfaction in the licking and crunching. To me it’s just stress and mess that gets in the way of enjoying the ice cream.

I love ice cream, hence I only indulge when away from home or a 3 oz carton as a treat. As far as cones go, I prefer it in a dish, but am OK with a waffle cone. Almost anything with chocolate works for me.

I like ice cream in both dishes and cones. Not hot on salted caramel, but most other flavors are fine.

I learned from NPR that, " The best thing about ice cream is there’s never a bad time for it."

Vanilla, followed closely by chocolate. Hey, I’m a sucker for the classics. Just the names of some of those specialty flavors that, say, Baskin-Robbins touts turn turn my stomach: “Bubble Gum”. “Bubble Gum”?! Yeah, yummy.

Egad! Tech problem in the early morning! My right hearing aid notified me it was down to 5% charge, which means it didn’t get charged overnight. I’ve been having trouble getting it seated properly in the charger.

My favorite is the cake cone. Its structural integrity is dependable, and it has the flat bottom so the cone can be set on a table upright, provided the ice cream scoops placed above are well balanced. Once the ice cream on top is gone, the cone itself can be eaten without it completely collapsing on the first bite. Desptite its great structural integrity, the texture of the cone is light and ‘airy’; it is, in this reviewer’s opinion, the most fun to eat of the cones.

The waffle cone is the worst. Its structural integrity is terrible; it’s an accident waiting to happen. At the very least, it always seems to leak at the bottom, necessitating having to awkwardly suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone.

The sugar cone, while often mistaken for the waffle cone due to the similar shape and lattice pattern, is stronger and more durable, having been developed for use in pre-made cones such as the famous ‘drumstick’ style cone. However, the strength of the cone detracts from ease and enjoyability of eating the cone once one gets to that step-- it’s extremely tough and chewy.

Outdoors, it’s 6 degrees F, with a 12 mph wind, which gives us a wind chill factor of 10 below zero. I have no reason to go out today.

Wifey, RN just went feet-wet.

Rum raisin for me, and you can add me to the dish-not-cone group.

Good morning.

It’s another ultra-soggy day. It’s currently 55°F, and raining. It’s been raining throughout the night and is expected to continue all day, with varying intensities from heavy to light. The daytime high will be 59°F.

Bright Tree, it’s good to hear that Ollie is settling down a bit, and I’m so glad the itchies are more under control. You’re right about the lack of snow pack, too; it’s worrisome for sure.

As to ice cream, I eat it in spring, winter, summer, or fall. It’s always the right time. I prefer it in a bowl or a cup, and my favorite flavors seem to change. I like an old-fashioned strawberry with big chunks of strawberry in it, chocolate is always good, and I’ll try just about anything once. Well, maybe not bubble gum; that flavor has never appealed to me.

Shoe, I hope your next shift is much better staffed. That’s ridiculous. I’m glad the teen got a dressing-down; let’s hope it sticks, though the cynic in me doesn’t think it will.

Boo Fae, yay for the end of the contract! Does ’ im indoors have something new lined up, or is he taking a break?

As usual, not much is going on here. The garbage needs to go down tonight, and I’m mulling bathing the doggos.

With that, I’m off to finish my coffee and peruse real estate. While perusing, if I see a property I like, I always check its flood plain status. But, pretty much any property near a river, lake or stream is a no for me. I’ve seen several nice properties a couple of counties north and south of me, but as soon as I check flood stats, they’re no longer in consideration.

Take care, folks!

I’d like a scoop of burnt marshmallow in a freshly made waffle cone, please.

It was busier than a usual Monday, not not too busy. Although the guy in the set next to me needed help to finish his 2 car set. I was out by 0715. And since I didn’t feel like waiting in the cold for 2 hours for Aldi to open, I just stopped at Teeter to grab a few needed things. My hands were cold in spite of the gloves. I told the cashier that if they had had rotisserie chickens out, I would have bought one just to hold it and warm up.So now I’ve had my oatmeal(strawberries and crea), do now it’s long nap time.

straight up vanilla, cake or sugar cone.

Been there, done that. You have my condolences.

Also, nothing says childhood like a cake cone and store brand ice cream like substance.

I would not.
