My lovely wife has heated up a small ham, adding dried apricots and cloves. We’re eating it now with mustard. Yum.
We pumped out over 100 kruschiki, got them fried and mostly sugared, but the temperature really plunged (it’s at 18F, down from 40F this morning) and it started snowing hard, so we sent the niece home with a can full of cookies. Luckily, she’s driving the big Jeep today and will hopefully get home before the roads get slippery.
Otis is clean - he didn’t enjoy being cleaned, but he didn’t fight us so I count it as a win. And an excellent deal at $15!
I just finished the touch-up painting. I just need to get a few measurements, then FCD can install both boards. Until it’s time to make supper, I can chill. And so I shall.
Afternoon all. Did all the banking on-line and then went to the bank (and the Credit Union) to do more stuff, and figured as long as I was out I’d head up to Tennessee and grab some forlorn hopes (lottery tickets), so by the time I got back it was nearly 2 pm and raining so decided to take the afternoon off, have an early dinner, and maybe visit the gym this evening (they are open until 10pm). We’ll see how it goes. Rain has stopped for the present but another set is due between 7-9pm according to the Weather Wizards.
FCM, of course you are right about the dangers of lottery ticket (or all the on-line gambling these days), but given that Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi all sell them, it’s not like they are not available. The two guys in line ahead of me at the store I stopped in were both from Alabama and doing the same thing I was.
And glad the Otis-cleaning was without major problems. Enjoy your Chillage.
Nut, enjoy the holiday from work.
Bright Tree, take care and hope the power stays on.
Cookie, looked up your kruschki and the first thing Google showed me was a Military Surplus company…but they do look delicious.
Wow, we went from a light snow forecast to blizzard conditions at present. Wet roads are now skating rinks. Sure glad I don’t have anywhere to go.
I’ve got a Thing this evening, but should be okay. More concerned about high wind than rain.
Howdy Y’all! We were bears who brunch and then it was back to da cave. Been a rainy day, so glad to be inside and dry. We napped, day drank, watched stoopid teevee, I read and perused teh intartoobz. Definitely upped our RDOS cred today.
MOOOOOOM hope RoxStar is better soonest. It’s awful to be sick on Christmas break. I got the chikin pox from my rotten younger sis and bro over Christmas break when I was nine. They got to miss skool and then gave it to me. No Fair!
When I went to walk Sir Charles, it was raining like it meant it, and the wind was blowing pretty hard. Not a fit day for man nor beast, so I chilled with him until the rain eased up a little. We only did about a mile, because nothing looks as forlorn as a wet dog gazing miserably at you.
The National Weather Service guys are drunk and probably playing table soccer with masking tape balls and finger goals. They said less than a tenth of an inch of rain this afternoon, and we’ve had WAY more than that. They can play fast and loose with those decimals. The weather forecast for the next week is pretty monotonous. (“Hey, peeps, let’s stay drunk and just use the same forecast every day!” “Brilliant, Horace–I mean Hazel.”)
The MRI results are in the patient portal. I’ve been translating them into plain English. Basically, it says my discs are crap, I have bone spurs on my spine, there’s inflammation all over the place, and the nerve routes are compressed, which that hysterical Dr. Google is telling me is a medical emergency. It’s not, at least not in my case. Everything says “moderate” except for the nerve bunching, which it says is severe. My next appointment with the pain specialist is January 29th, only now I"m wondering if he’ll just refer me back to the spine PA. If that’s the case, I’d rather not wait. Oh, well, I’ll live.
Cookie, is the blizzard you’re getting related to the atmospheric river we’re getting over here? Stay safe!
FCM, I hope Roxie gets batter fast. Maybe your magical gramma healing powers will fix her fast.
I’m freezing, and that housework isn’t going to do itself.
My little RoxStar is back to her normal self according to Daughter. She’s even been cleared to return to school tomorrow, so maybe it wasn’t strep, but something mimicking it. Anyway, good to know.
Jessica, MIL’s aide from Hospice, must have picked up my mental vibes - I was going to call her and ask when she was coming to pick up the blankets. Instead, she texted me and asked if she could swing by this afternoon, which she did. So six more are on their way and I’m thinking about ordering more yarn so I can make more after the holidays. It was nice to see her. It’s been a year since MIL died and we went from seeing Jessica 5 times a week to not at all.
I copped a 'tude and we went out for Chinese for supper, which means we have leftover Chinese for tomorrow’s lunch, too. Yay! I fixed my FB on my PC which, for some reason, wouldn’t let me message Daughter, tho it was working on my tablet and phone. I just logged out then logged in again, and voila!! So now I’ve earned some hard-core chillage. And my evening apple-n-peanut butter.
Tonight’s menu listing was chicken bacon pasta, Prince Edward veggies, glazed lemon cake, garlic bread and iced tea. The only differences were a roll instead of garlic bread and apple pie for dessert.
Like… carrots with pierced earrings in them?
I’m making grilled ¼-pound Costco Dinner Franks for dinner.
Yeah, it’s pretty much a direct hit from that, but toned down quite a bit. South of here really got smacked, with highways closed and high winds driving the snow.
I thought this was funny. My niece got a note in her 10-year-old son’s handwriting:
To: [her name]
From: ElfI’m proud of you! Please make more cookies!
red, what are Prince Edward vegetables?
FCM, glad the Rox Star is better. Blessings on you for those blankets!
I napped. Spot and I hunted a bug.
Me: < swats at bug >
Spot: < swats me >
Me: “what was that for?”
Spot: “Sorry, you lesser forms all look alike.”
So I’m having a Monte Cassino. Smoked Paprika Chicken, and cheesy potatoes.
Wow. I used to walk through the woods to school past a shed full of dynamite.
Glad you’re prepared.
At least you didn’t have to tackle him, and drag him to the tub, like literally every dog I’ve had.
Yay!
Thanks.
The good wishes must’ve worked! Heavy rains arrived, but the winds never did. It got a little breezy, but nothing like what we had overnight on Tuesday. I’m really glad – I already have enough of a mess to clean up.
It’s a relief to still have power and have this storm mostly in the rear view mirror.
Thanks. Me, too.
And I wish Ollie would hunt bugs. Useless critter.
red, I’m so happy you’re making progress and will celebrate when you’re back home. Just having Nelson close by will be inspirational for you, I’ll bet.
I tried a new recipe for dinner and it turned out well, but I’m sure glad I lined the baking sheet with foil. Sheet pan dinners are supposed to be no fuss and this one was, mostly. You roast sausages (I used hot Italian) with halved Brussels sprouts and chunked potatoes at high temperature, then drizzle all with a Dijon mustard-mustard seed-honey mixture and toss on some chopped nuts. I used pecans as they are my default nut. Then roast for 10 minutes longer. I had a feeling the honey was going to make everything stick. It did. But apart from spending a little time dislodging potatoes and Brussels sprouts from the foil, clean-up was a snap! And dinner was tasty. I’ll make it again.
Ollie barked at dogs on the tee vee, beat up Lambie some more and bolted his meals. On deck is wrestling with my arm this evening after a brief nap. So pretty much a day like any other except no walkies. No way was I going out in that mess to dodge falling tree limbs.
Carrots, green and wax beans.
Time for the late-night final. Timed my gym visit almost perfectly, got there before the heavy rain started and finished just as it was ending, so that worked out well. Have the NFL tackleball game on Amazon Prime, actually is a pretty good one this week, tied with less than a minute to go. Temperature is 48F but will be somewhat cooler tomorrow but at least no rain forecast.
Cookie, your weather sounds like a good reason to stay inside.
lily, hope the Thing went ok.
nellie, my go to on forecasting is Weather Underground, they seem to hit it pretty well and update constantly. Your MRI results, as I read your message, sounds like the old “Outside of that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?” Hope the Medicos can help. And I love that note!
FCM, glad Roxy is feeling better and Jessica is probably happy for the blankets and that you still remember her…I imagine a lot of folks may not be that nice…
red, at least they are getting closer on the menu and I’d take apple pie of lemon cake any day.
Bright Tree, glad no more damage was done.
And the tackleball game is in ovedrtime, so I guess I’m going to be late getting to bed. Take care all.
CatMom is wearing one of the T-shirts I got her for her birthday.
It says:
‘You’re drunk!’
‘You’re talking to a cat.’
Nice! Tokyo-Tiger?
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 62 degrees Ferret Height(16.67 Centipedes) and raining. And my seasonal sinus drainage has started, so it’s a week of chugging Sudafed and cough syrup, plus headaches. Joy.
“It would be rude not to answer him.”
