When we had a dog, the Kong chew toy proved itself to be as indestructible as it claimed, and it’s hollow, so you can stuff a treat in it.
I never got the mint chocolate chip love. While I eenjoy peppermint patties and peppermint ice cream, mint chocolate chip tends to be spearmint based, which is a no go for me.
Onward Tuesday!
15 degrees when I woke. Going up to 32.
Thursday supposedly 52. Ohio.
Off to grocery store.
Nellie - I worked in an ice cream shop when I was in high school. It was like employing a junkie at the pharmacy. My favorite thing was learning to roll the waffle cones. There is just something Zen about it. That - and every once in a while, you get an “oops.”
FCM We crate our Chloé at night and when we have to leave. She doesn’t like it, but the alternative is allowing her to tear up the house and bother the rabbit. I don’t know how she does it, but she can steal the rabbit’s hay, even when the hutch is closed.
We’re all working through our various advent calendars. As a family, we’ve been sharing the International Yums one. Mrs Magill is working through her Aldi coffee one. I’ve got my Ikea chocolate one, and Chloé has her Costco Bark! calendar. Yesterday, she got a massive squeak toy. She worked on that for a couple of hours yesterday. I guess it made up for the lack of a morning walk.
It was too cold again this morning to walk - at least that’s what I’m telling myself.
Good morning all. Have broken fast and peed (not quite in that order) and am now doing the morning internettin’. Warmer weather today, already 36F heading to 53F and blue skies at least for the morning. Nothing much on the agenda today, we’ll see what I feel like doing.
And now the scrolling begins…
Sensei, tis’ the season to be sickly…I’m feeling that odd ‘I’m not sick at all but just not quite well’ feeling that might develop into something or may disappear by tomorrow, will just have to see how it goes. Enjoy skiing. And best to Senboy, those Futsal balls are hard.
nellie, yay! for a trial-free week. And double yay! for the quiet apartment. And triple yay! for the good eye checkup.
flyboy, the feline dynamics still have to sort themselves out, it appears. Hope things settle down soon.
Happy Laundryin’, swampy.
FCM, love the Otis/Ziva stories. And my brother/Sis-in-Law always crate their bassets if they are going to be gone for several hours.
And best of 2sDays to all y’all. Back to the mornin’ internettin’ for me.
Good morning.
It’s 48°F, dark and cloudy outside. Rain showers are expected this morning, with full-on rain in the afternoon and evening, and a daytime high of 55°F. We had some strong wind gusts late afternoon and last night, and more are expected starting around 6:00 p.m. tonight: flooding, mudslides, and even earthquakes (up north). Evacuations continue due to levee breaks, and my favorite way to travel to Yakima in the summer is closed indefinitely between Enumclaw and Green River. That highway is the only way to reach the Crystal Mountain Ski resort. Between the lack of snow and now this, they are doomed for this season.
Nellie! Good to see you and yay for good eye news!
Even the black Kongs were destroyed by my dogs, but Maisie is the most ferocious chewer. Buster’s “baby” is a stuffed Orca that I purchased from Mudbay. He loves that thing and will often sleep with it during the day.
Boo Fae, I hope 'im indoors finishes your list!
Sticky, I hope things warm up soon, and all your IEP meetings go smoothly.
Welcome home to Wifey RN, Johnny. I’ll bet she was tired!
We used to crate the pups when we left the house, but over the last several months, we’ve left them uncrated and come back to them sleeping on our bed. We know they’ve been upstairs because the bed is still warm when we check upstairs. However, we have garbage cans with lids, so we don’t need to worry about them getting into the trash.
I’m debating going down to the old office tomorrow to bring the team some Christmas goodies. Hardly anyone will be working next week, so I figure I’d better get it done this week. I also need to call the butcher shop and order the prime rib roast for Christmas today or tomorrow. Probably today, so it doesn’t slip my mind.
I’ll knock out some laundry today, and probably run the vacuum cleaner. That’s the extent of my exciting plans. I need to finish Christmas shopping for my son so I can get his presents wrapped. Those will be the only gifts under the tree, as my husband and I have already exchanged token gifts. I consider the e-bikes our gifts (and so does he). I may buy him some gloves for riding the ebikes, though.
Alrighty, time to finish my coffee and get on with the day. Please take care of yourselves.
No roast this year. We’d gotten $25 off a turkey at BJ’s last month, but we’d gone to my son’s for Thanksgiving. I had to talk him though buying a turkey while he was standing in the middle of the commissary. He did not understand why he couldn’t wait for his mother to come down and help him pick one out on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I had to explain that it will need at least one day in the fridge for every three pounds to thaw completely. Anyhow, I now have a sixteen pound turkey sitting in the freezer, so I guess I’m having turkey for Christmas.
Otis sleeps in his crate and goes there for “time out” when he gets a tad to rambunctious, and now it’ll be his prison when we leave. The first few times we left him out, he did fine, but yesterday, he went wild.
Our bathroom cans are lidded, and the kitchen trash is in a cabinet, but the ones mostly used for paper trash (tissues and such) were his targets yesterday. I’m wondering how much is a throwback to his days on the loose before animal control got him.
Our holiday food plans are pretty easy. Daughter is having us over for Christmas Eve breakfast as is their custom. Christmas day is grazing at my brother’s. I don’t need to plan anything for either day. I will have the grands from the 28th to the 31st - overnight the first 2 nights because SIL will be working till 11 or so. Daughter plans to get back from Akron on the 31st, so she’ll pick up her spawn on the way. I do need to plan for them, but I figure mini pizzas, mac-n-cheese, roll-up sammiches, and maybe ravioli should suffice. They do love their pasta and that’s so easy. Maybe chicken nuggets one meal.
FCD has headed to the marina to install the name boards and the companionway doors. I just put the house horse in time out because I didn’t want to be his chew toy. I’ll be having lunch soon, then I’ll let him out for his midday kibbles. That will be followed by the last coat of Cetol. As you can see, thrills and chills abound!
I was on 100 Middle Red again. They were sending people home early, and we still got the Ground done in 3 hours. One of the cars I was loading only had 115 packages, 7 for an apartment complex, and the rest for N.C. State. Not a great economic sign.
Nobody:
Spot, at 0300:
< takes notes for next cold snap >
Ouch. Hope it’s nothing serious.
My Kong disappeared. I can only assume Gordie had eaten it.
HAPPY DOPERVERSARY MAUS_MAGILL!!!

Oops. I forgot the theme.
Chocolate chip with waffle cone.
Beethoven’s birthday!
Got up went out for breakies, feta and spinach omelette, French fries, white toast.
Did a bit of clearing in the secret room. Then got all the winter/holiday bins out of the storage. Then took the summer/fall bins down to storage. Beethoven is on the stereo.
A bit of a break before getting into the cleaning and decorating part of the day.
The cats think the bin pile is a jungle gym.
And off I go to deck the flat…
I’m hearing running water from up above our apartment. That apartment is empty. I notified maintenance. All we need is another damned leak.
Laundry all done and stowed.
Did some necessary shopping. Picked up a bag of sugar that isn’t a concrete brick. Got a couple of nice steaks for our Christmas dinner. Two steaks: $50!
As I write this, the water noise has stopped, so here’s hoping.
Building management is replacing all the carpet on the ground floor, a project that will likely take a couple of weeks. It’s been in poor shape for quite some time. They’re doing the smart thing this time and replacing the hallway carpet with a hard surface.
Evening all..
We had no snow, just frost, but I skived off skool today anyway. I needed to finish the Christmas shopping and I would have just been sitting round waiting for other people to message me.I popped in to check emails, make sure there was nothing urgent, but that was it.
I got ice cream from the good shop, which is probably you guys fault for reminding me. I got tayberry, for the record- I think loganberry is the closest equivalent in the US. Not tried it before- was decent, but not thrilling.
I’m concerned about my Latin Drama friend- he came back to work yesterday, after taking a week off to go to his mother’s funeral and clear out her flat. The guy covering apparently said they’d been really surprised by how much work he was having to do to keep up, so they plan to sort it out (yay!)
by…
Sending my friend on a 6 week work trip, starting mid-January, staying in random farms in the middle of nowhere in Latin America and physically going round all the places where they’ve been having issues and sorting it out in person (what?? seriously?? no yay. I take back the yay, that’s not a yay at all).
They’re trying to get him to agree to sign up for this during his first few days back, while he’s still breaking down crying mutiple times a day. It’s pissing me off. It would also mean missing the trip which was still in the early planning stages to meet up for my birthday.
Raining here. We just got back from a friend’s memorial. Catching up on tasks. Later, I’ll parcel out the remaining presents to be wrapped plus stocking stuffers. I bought myself a bag of pfeffernüsse because I can.
Eight minute staff meeting. I like that.
Taking another break, milk and Milanos. Many items to the goodwill bin. Still piles to go through. Everything is inside the flat stuff now, no more up and down I hope.
Today I got distracted by a shiny needlepoint project and time just got away from me.
Hubs had to go to the store today, we were out of cream and cheap beer which is an emergency situation. While he was out, he saw Tiramisu flavored coffee pods and bought a box for me. I think I’ll keep him around a while longer.
The afternoon jolt of caffeine got me moving and I cut up big boxes to make small misshapen ones and sent the last few packages out. Nothing really needed to be there by xmas, I just wanted to get that list finished.
It did warm up today and was a balmy 42F this afternoon so I didn’t suffer that much scurrying from my car to the post office door.
Hopefully the garbage will be collected tomorrow, Hubs taped the cardwithtip to the top of the can but forgot to put it in a plastic bag and it is supposed to rain tomorrow. I know that cash won’t melt in the rain, but we also gave garbage guy a card and I’d hate for it to be ruined before he saw it.
And time still hasn’t gotten back in sync, I need to start dinner now. I’ve put all of the shiny threads away so hopefully they won’t suck me back in before I can reply to folks.
Only one death associated with the PNW flooding so far (that we know of). Two levees breached. More rain and high winds ramping up.
