What's Your Favorite Ice Cream Cone? - An Inappropriate Winter MMP

It was not bitterly cold this morning, so Chloé and I were up and got our four miles in. I’m shaved, fed, and caffeinated. I’m head to my power flow class now. I really should have looked at the clock five minuets ago.

Am going to the place where you can get free clothes. I do need colors. I have 7 black tank tops and 7 black pants.

Good morning! Mrs. Nott’s Tuesday Poshmark show was pretty good, but she’s not going to have one next week. Folks are going to be caught up in the whirlwind of just-before-Christmas, and too busy to do that stuff.

Traffic here on the SDMB also falls off dramatically around Christmas and New Year’s, so be prepared for that.

I fell down yesterday in the kitchen. I had gotten two glasses out of the cupboard for supper, and somehow got my feet tangled up in the padded mats my wife insists on having in the kitchen. I dropped the glasses, but somehow they didn’t break. I did not personally get hurt, except for a scrape on my right arm, which I didn’t notice until hours later. I marked it on my calendar, because, at 76, every doctor visit includes the question, “Have you fallen?”

I was more emotionally rattled than physically. Facing the realities of age and physical condition is depressing. We’re gonna have to talk about those padded kitchen mats. Seems to me that she could wear padded shoes instead of endangering her wobbly husband.

Good morning.

It’s 42°F, dark, gusty, and damp. We expect a high of 46°F, with rain and showers throughout the day.

It was a very wild night, and the wind gusts were enormous. I could hear substantial stuff falling, and Maisie was terrified. I’ll have to look at things once we have daylight. We lost power for a while during the wee hours, but it’s back on now. A friend who lives a few miles southwest of me still doesn’t have power, and I know thousands are without power right now. They had wind gusts of 112 MPH up at one of the passes, and are now calling for blizzard conditions up in the Cascades. The weather is just bonkers.

Knot, do be careful. I’m sorry you fell.

Swampy, my son’s university had a creamery, too.

Maisie barks when there is a doorbell sound on the TV.

Today is my son-in-law’s birthday, and I’ve already sent him birthday greetings. I’m going to have to put off my trip to the office until tomorrow for two reasons: 1) the power is out there, and 2) the furnace is being serviced today. I’ll probably go tomorrow.

Alrighty, it’s time to get on with the day. Stay safe and warm, my friends.

Hoping the damage isn’t too bad!

I starts earlier than that - at my last appointment I had to report a fall, but it was because the idiot dog knocked me down as I crossed the slippery yard. That doesn’t really count. At least she didn’t count it.

My doc and my mom’s have both said to get rid of throw rugs and the like. I took up the one in the guest bathroom, but the one in our bathroom is pretty big and very flat and rubber backed, so it’s not been a problem, My feet, however, are occasionally contrary, but they haven’t caused a fall yet. :crossed_fingers:

Back from my errands. Guess it’s time to have a go at the nav boards. rah.

Good morning all. Made it to 7:00am and woke up with a sore throat and a stuffy nose, not feeling unwell but feel like my body’s defense are being active against something. We’ll see how the day goes. It’s already 50F and will get to 58F later today, so it is a December day I can live with. Rain most of the day tomorrow, however.

Went through the mail I got yesterday, six letters and every last one of them from some organization that wants me to donate money to them. They all go in the garbage (I do my donations in June all at one time and that’s it) and I guess I can take comfort that I am keeping the Post Office a going concern…

Bright Tree, glad that Ollie’s rear end is settling down.

Wolfie, we have a couple Dairy Queens around here, I normally visit them for their Hamburgers (they make pretty good ones IMHO) but you have me thinking I haven’t had one of their ice creams in a good long while…

boo fae, happy littering (in a good way).

FCM, that dog has a strong biting instinct; doubt that he will ever turn on you but you’d best budget a never-ending supply of toys for him each year… And I never get spam like you mention…would be a bother anyway fitting it in my pants and underwear… :scream:

Cookie, an interesting hypothesis on the water; maybe remember it the next time you have the same weather conditions and check.

So you’ve been dancing the night away?

Coppertone, good luck on the clothes shopping.

Knots, glad the fall wasn’t bad, I fear that more than most things around the house and whatever my shortcomings as a house-cleaner I do try to minimize things I could trip on. I’m 73 BTW so in the same ballpark. Take care and don’t be surprised if your a little sore today.

Taters, hope nothing got to tore up, that’s hurricane-level winds in some places. Take care.

FCM, may the Cetol/Painting job finally get completed.

And that’s all for now. Catch y’all later.

thanks to die capacitrix, i have been enjoying white chocolate peppermint tea. so good! thank you for the link a few mmps ago.

back at the office and spent the last 3 hours tiding up things that have happened during the 2 days i was gone. lots of “take it there now” going on. things have calmed down now. time to think about lunch.

Huh, I hadn’t noticed that.. 15 years. When did that happen?

People are vanishing from irk, so the things that need space are getting easier, while the things that need assistance are getting harder- except with the few people who are still there but normally insanely busy.

I believe its the earliest sunset of the year today, though sunrise is still getting a bit later for another few days. Not that the sun was visible at all today and it looks like rain all day tomorrow.
I actually have to get in on time tomorrow for a meeting, but that’s my last scheduled event for the year, unless there’s one Monday afternoon (hoping it’ll be cancelled, one of the two attendees has already cancelled).

Our dismal, wet and dark weather at least sounds better than what some of you are having! Please do stay safe…

Awww. I’m glad Ollie isn’t the only loopy one! It’s pretty funny, to be honest.

He really is. It is such a relief to give him such relief! I hope it all lasts. Be careful lifting all that cat litter and enjoy your time out with friends tonight!

What a wonderful memory, swampy. And I agree, walking and biking all over town for kids these days is unheard of. Not an improvement for them, I don’t think.

Hmmm. More like a cheeky pretender? (I actually like the stuff, though.)

cookie, enjoy the holiday lights best you can. It doesn’t sound like the most pleasant outing for you. At least cookies are in your future!

Glad you are ok, knotts. My doc also already asks about falls, and I’m < cough > years younger than you. It is always scary when it happens. Good plan to remove those kitchen mats.

taters, I could have written your sentence above! We shared the same night. Ollie and I slept in the family room, which is safer during periods of high winds with all my big trees that loom over the house. Two medium-sized dead ones snapped in the wind at around 1:30 a.m. They fell near the house but not on it, I’m happy to report. The place looks like a war zone with all the fallen debris. We also lost power for a couple of hours, but I was expecting that. Kudos to my power co-op, who had us back up and running so quick! We get a respite today, but more of this nonsense on Thursday. I’ll be ready.

Good plan to postpone the trip to your former office.

metal mouse, I hope your sore throat and stuffy nose have resolved in a positive way! Getting a cold at the holidays would definitely put a damper on the festivities. Thank you for the kind Ollie wishes, too.

I’ll postpone debris clean-up until after tomorrow. I didn’t sleep much last night with all the wild weather and falling trees, so perhaps there’s a nap in my future. Oh, who am I kidding? I never nap!

Got Ollie’s nails trimmed this morning after dodging fallen trees on the way to the kennel. There were several that had fallen across roads for the 8-mile drive. I am thankful for whoever the good Samaritans are that come out and chainsaw them out of the way.

Time to rustle up some food.

FCD picked up the hatch and put it on the boat - pic on FB. We need to get a couple of support arms to hold it open when we want air down below, but that can be done whenever. And apparently the name boards are getting good reviews from folks at the boat yard. Go me!

I haven’t done anything on the nav boards, tho. They are upstairs at least. I should get to them tomorrow. I did run the dishwasher, and a load of rags are in the dryer. But the washer now stinks, so I need to run some vinegar thru it.

Otis and I just got back from a walk and I had to crate him. He seemed to think I should pet him as he desired and I disagreed. So once he escalated to chewing on me, his ass was directed to the crate. Idiot.

Supper will be poke loin, broccoli, and maybe corn. Dunno if I’ll do sous vide, rotisserie, or just toss it in the oven (the simplest option.) Place your bets…

I should probably empty the dishwasher now.

We definitely have better feline relations with the current two. They shared my desk chair for napping earlier, and when Buddy woke up enough to decide to groom himself, he also gave Kasya some licks, which she didn’t seem to object to.

Howdy Y’all! Our RDOS cred is at an all time high. We have out slothed ourselves today. The weather was nice enough that we could sit out on the back porch and day drink. Then sup got fixed and et. Dishwasher is now washin’ away. It still amazes me how quiet it is. I only hear it when I am in the kitchen. That’s all the news from swampland.

I’m glad no glass was broken and minimal damage done.

Yay!

I got up in the recliner for a couple of hours this afternoon. While I may be able to get up in another chair tomorrow, it won’t be that one. It sets too low to the floor for me to get out of without two men, a boy and a goose.

This evening’s menu lists bef taco, seasoned beans, pico salad, churros and iced tea. The tray had fried shrimp, cabbage, sweet potato fries, a chocolate chip cookie and iced tea.

Not too much rain for us today, but more rivers rising and road closures. Saw a photo of a trampoline blown clear up to tangle with power lines in Enterprise, Oregon, I think.

We have ordered a cat box, a cat box mat, a package of litter, and a cat tree. We’ll look for cats soon.

red The disparity between what you are promised and what you receive is hilarious. At least you’re still getting iced tea.

Was a day of a shit ton of meetings. I think 5.5 hours. So yeah, I didn’t get much real work done.

Evening all. Felt well enough to get out and over to the gym for a couple of hours, then home to my Chee-Burger for dinner and am now contemplating what to have for a later-night calorie replacement. Still pretty nice outside, 44F and should stay there for the evening, but rain is due for most of tomorrow so I’ll be joining all the Mumpers who have been experiencing wet weather–just hope it’s not the nasty stuff many are facing.

rocky, always some office cleanup when you’ve been off for a bit, glad it’s settled down.

Nut, are they laying people off or just the usual Holiday leave-taking depleting the numbers? And just looked at my weather report, it says tomorrow will be 12 seconds shorter between sunrise and sunset. I will not be timing it.

Bright Tree, hang in there and hope the weather doesn’t get too nasty. Is someone going to come and remove the tree debris? And thanks for the hope, the nose is clear and the sore throat has abated considerably, so whatever it was seems to be clearing out.

FCM, saw the Facebook page of the Hatch, looks good! And it seems Otis may need a few more lessons on good behavior.

Nettie, hooray for feline tranquillity.

red, do they have a staff member to provide the goose?

Van Go, it sounds like your day was one where the minutes were kept and the hours were lost. Better luck tomorrow.

And that’s all for now, need to see if the Southwest Chief has appeared in LaPlata, Missouri yet (just arrived).

I’m really starting to worry about the menu discrepancies, @missred. Sounds like the kitchen can’t be trusted to serve food that, for example, accounts for a patient’s sensitivities or other dietary limits. Yesterday, wasn’t there a surprise peanut item on the tray?

Good point!

The loader for Middle Red showed up, so I was on 100 Bottom blue this morning. The one car only had 298 pieces. The other? 350. And there were 4 bulk loads(including a drum set, giant subwoofer, and 5 guitars and keyboards.
< finishes stuffing all that into car >
< a 120lbs treadmill and 4 pickup truck tires come >
Me: “THERE IS NO GOD!”
And no the tires did not make it out.
I had my oatmeal(apples and cinnamon), and and everything bagel with cream cheese. Spot had dry, flavorless bits. Now it’s time to nap till hockey.

Tomorrow.

Poor pup. Glad you have power back.

Glad you’re OK, though.

< forgets to hit send >
Up, from naptime. Having a martini and teriyaki stirfry. Watching hockey. Spot made the front page of LOLCats for his “No Sleep. Only Chaos” pic.

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :shortcake: :partying_face:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY NUT!!! :shortcake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

There’s a Star Trek:TNG episode about that.

What, the Universe doesn’t just drop off cats on you? But good luck finding the right one.
