What's Your Favorite Ice Cream Cone? - An Inappropriate Winter MMP

50 degrees here!
Obviously I must go enjoy it. I can wear my tennies now the snow has melted.
Grocery, library, etc.
Natch, it will be below freezing tomorrow.

That’s just insane! Around here, I see parents sitting in their cars at the end of their driveways with kids, waiting for the school bus. I’ll give them a pass if it’s raining or mega-cold, but, no, it’s every day. Heaven forbid little Missy or Sonny must walk unsupervised the 200 feet from the front door to the road where the bus stops!!

Now, this is a mostly rural county so you don’t see kids walking or out on bikes in most areas - everything is too far away along high-speed roads. But a driveway??? I wonder what it’s like these days in the neighborhood where I grew up.

red - does anyone hazard a guess as to how much longer before you can go home? My mom’s recent ordeal led to guesses of anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending, of course, on her progress. She was much closer to 2 weeks…

I may or may not have Roxy today. She woke very early with a red, sore throat and painful swallowing. SIL is taking her to the doc at 9 and shortly after, I’ll find out if I get her, if SIL takes the day off work, or if she goes to school (least likely outcome.) The only plan we’d had for today was taking Otis to the DIY dog wash, so if that gets put off, it’s not a biggie.

My other plan, again not a biggie, is to touch up the white lettering on the nav boards. I also need to measure them so I can make covers. Plus I need to make a cover for the forward hatch. I guess sewing is my next project.

My bro sent the official invite to his place for Christmas, and assuming we stay healthy and it isn’t slippery, we’ll make the gawd-awful drive. FCD wants me to make a green bean casserole (meh) so I guess I will. It’ll be a change from deviled eggs.

It’s 33 Ferrets on its way to mid-50s. If Roxy doesn’t come, Otis will get a nice, long walk today. So we’ll see how it all goes.

Happy Thursday!!

Weather here will be in the low to mid-forties today, and windy, rainy, windy, rainy, and rainy.

The meal at the steak house was decent, but more than I could possibly eat. I think the steak was 17oz and I brought home half of it. Two of our party ordered vegetarian meals, which was off-menu and meant that they didn’t get their dinners until we all had finished ours, which also meant sitting in those chairs for another 20 minutes or so. The ride back was interminable and my back was screaming all the way. I told the wife that if she wants to do the Christmas outing next year, she’s on her own. At least the Aleve allowed me to sleep through the night, but I’m pretty stiff this morning.

40F again this morning, but that’s going to plunge by tomorrow as the next front comes in. I hear the wife moving about, so time to get breakfast underway.

I’m guessing within the next few days.

It was a rough night. I went from sweating bullets (popped a low BG) to needing a blanket within the space of 90 minutes. Just waiting for breakfast now.

Good morning.

It’s 43°F, raining lightly. What a surprise! It’ll pretty much rain all day again, and there is a wind advisory for the area I live in. We’re not expecting anything like the other night, though. The expected daytime high is 53°F.

The clean-up from all the flooding and all the infrastructure damage is ongoing and will take months. Again, I was fortunate and suffered no damage. There are some largish branches down in my yard from the neighbor’s fir tree, and I’m hoping nothing damaged the roof.

Metal Mouse, I hope you’re feeling better today.

Red, I hope your temperature fluctuations are not indicative of an infection, and I hope you’ll be able to leave at the appropriate time.

Lily, I hope the perfect purr machine finds you and your lovely wife.

I walked and rode all over the place in my youth, as well. I rode to lakes and ponds and swam without my adults present. I rode to the deep woods and played in there, again, without adults present. I rode from one end of town to another, and often to nearby towns. Times are so different, especially out here.

Well, I suppose I should get on with the day. My night was rather restless, again, so I’ve been awake for hours. Time for another cup of coffee. Please take care of yourselves.

Doc says Roxy seems to have the beginning of strep, so SIL is staying home with her and dosing her with meds. With luck, she hasn’t shared it with her brother. Poor kid.

I forgot to share my particularly bizarre dream. I was shopping at Dollar General, and when I checked out, the total was over $90!!! How is that possible at DG?? So I was looking over my receipt and saw a charge for $62 as a donation to some politician. Because, of course, DG is the place to make political donations. As you can imagine, I woke a bit confused.

Just FYI - Saturday’s Powerball drawing will be for $1.5 billion. Taking the cash option will give you less than half of that much. Guess it’s not enough billions to get into the Bezos and Musk no-tax club. < snark > If I remember, I may get some tickets.

OK, Roxy-free day. First item on the agenda is cleaning the pellet stove once it cools down. Then I’ll touch up the white lettering on the nav boards. And if FCD gets home at a reasonable time, we’ll take Otis to the DIY dog wash. Good times ahead!

poor roxy. that is very owie. i hope she gets well quickly.

as a kid i would get a sore throat over winter break. added to feeling icky, i was miffed that i couldn’t enjoy non school time.

two social things today. office lunch and condo thing. the condo thing, i’ll just fly by; the office lunch will be the big time consumer today.

Welp - I’m paying for it now. I have an outage call. There goes the day.

Morning all. Stayed in bed until 8am today, still have a stuffy nose but feel ok (except a bit sore, think I overdid with the exercising yesterday). Rain has come and gone and will show up again all during the day according to the weather wizards, but temperatures will stay in the 50’sF. Need to do some banking on-line for my major activity of the morning, and then we’ll have to see what I’m feeling like in the afternoon.

Nettie, thanks, ah, makes sense. Pretty sure it wasn’t University Child Development Schools, which is what Google’s first page shows…

lily, looked through that link, quite imaginative!

nellie, I prefer the hammer-n-nail picture holders, the stickers eventually will give out like you found.

I pretty much make up a schedule each week and don’t vary much from week to week. I do change hamburger places on Moanday and my Sunday dinner is rotated between 7-8 places so there is a little variety, but mostly it’s a beaver-diet…the same dam thing.

doggio, happy heaving.

boo fae, I just booked a train ride in April from Nice, France to Barcelona, Spain with 2 connections, one of which is only 19 minutes. Hope I can do as well as you do.

Coppertone, enjoy the day, because it sounds like tomorrow won’t be quite that nice.

FCM, that is overdoing it a bit (the kids not walking down the driveway). I think the longest I was ever gone was when I was in my late teens, took my bike out to ride and ended up gone for about 7 hours and many miles…I did stop and call home to let them know I was ok, however. Hope Roxy is doing OK, I know the feeling (and I see she has the makings of strep, so hope she gets better soon with Xmas coming).

And now you have me thinking about riding up to the border (with Tennessee) for Lottery tickets…I do wish Ali-bama would finally grow up and allow them to be sold here.

Knots, not much wind here, but rain will be on and off all day (it’s off right now but due back in less than an hour).

Cookie, I think the largest steak I eat is 11oz and that is more than enough for me, so I can easily imagine 17oz steaks providing two meals. Hope you’re feeling OK this morning.

And body has taken on the necessary ration of calories, so need to get the banking stuff sorted out and then decide what to do with the rest of the day. Have a good Thorsday all.

My favorite is always a good vanilla, followed closely by butter pecan, and pistachio that is actually pistacho, not a mix of pistachio and almond, and made on a sweet cream base.

Pellet stove is cleaned and refilled - I’ll fire it up later since it’s kinda mild right now. Letters on the boards are cleaned and prepped for painting, tho I won’t do that till after lunch since it’s almost my very early lunch time. Ice maker has been running and the ice bin is almost full. I took the fire-starters and lighters downstairs. For whatever reason, FCD bought 2 boxes of 40 starters (???) and two 2-packs of long butane lighters. Unless the butane evaporates, that’s enough to last us, dunno, 5 or 6 years??

I need to clean up the Cetoling stuff in the basement before Saturday - I’ll probably do it today so I can put things back in order down there. And I should change the sheets on our bed - I really hate that chore, even tho it’s not difficult. It’s just one of those things I hate to do - like dusting.

I also have the 7 books that make up Elswyth Thane’s WIlliamsburg series. I’ve only read 3 and part of the 4th, but I can’t handle them any more. I know they’re a product of the time they were written, but they’re so racist, it’s jarring. I hate to donate them to the library but I can’t bring myself to throw them in the trash. Since I bought them from ThriftBooks, maybe I’ll sell them back there.

Maybe they’re trying to protect people from themselves? I’ve read stories of people going into debt to buy lots of tickets when the jackpot gets high - even suggestions that people took out second mortgages. I can see some people considering that. Or maybe it’s a “moral” decision?

OK, time to do something - I can’t be sitting here on the computer all day. :stuck_out_tongue:

Grind up some coffee beans (espresso grind) and sprinkle it on top.

A less chaotic day today, Top Red this time. I hit Teeter for my Senior Day shopping. Spot and I played ice cube soccer till he batted them all under the appliances.

Which may be pancakes and bacon, or it may be Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a Mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam.

oooooooooo

The argument made by the people who usually end up caught in bed with a live boy, a dead girl, and an underage goat.

For clarity, the people vanishing from irk are just taking leave for the holidays- the site officially closes between Christmas eve and this year with the weekends it won’t re-open until the 5th Jan. Nothing nefarious.

Or so they keep telling me…

‘Closed’ is a bit of a lie, as there will still be people coming in cos science projects with live stuff demands occasional checks, and there are some people who don’t get the concept of time off, but there’ll only be a handful of people working.

I shall be in tomorrow, but that’s it for me until it re-opens. Monday’s meeting is indeed cancelled, woo!

Here’s the news story, FCM. I’d forgotten that CPS had determined the parents were guilty of child neglect because the kids were walking home from a park a mile away. When I was the age of the older child, I often walked a mile to the local pool with a friend and her kid sister. It’s a brave fearful new world.

I’m impressed dogs will wash themselves. Mine would happily jump into a murky irrigation ditch but balk at getting in a tub of clean water.

It’s raining hard. I hope it stops before I have to walk Charlie. His attitude towards rain reminds me of doggio’s Princess Pretty Paws. I do miss those Gordie tales.

Poor baby. :people_hugging:

doggio, breakfast is usually spot on.

Today, lunch is as well.

I walked a mile home from first through third grade with the instruction to not go in the canal. The seventies were a different time.

Crappy night last night. I kept waking every hour, on the hour. So today I feel meh.

Looks like we’re in for a humdinger of a weather day, again. Same as what we endured night before last, only it will unfold during the day. Which is better, so far as I’m concerned. At least I can watch the destruction while it happens!

I’m as ready as I can be. Fire laid in the wood burner for when the power goes with plenty of wood at the ready, food easily heated if I can’t use my oven (it’s gas, but has an electronic igniter), bathed so I don’t need much water, water put aside for bathing and cooking, Kindle charged in case it becomes my sole amusement. Hard rain doesn’t worry me, but high winds do. The trees are beginning to stir, so… soon.

My best to everyone, but I’m short on time today for greetings. Hopefully I’ll still be able to get online tonight and do better!

Best wishes!
