The high note at the end of “In The Mood” Glen Miller. My idea of the most joyous, exuberant moment in music!
“Complete Control,” by The Clash. The last third of the song, starting right after Joe Strummer sings, “Complete control – let me see your other hand!” Then it drops to that three-note riff – “all over …” and the rest of the song is just musical perfection – “This is Joe Public speaking!” “C-O-N control!”
Darnit, this stuff is hard to describe, but it’s absolutely gorgeous.
As soon as I hit “enter,” I remembered another one: Big Star’s “My Life is Right.” The very opening (“Once I walked a lonely road”) is fantastic, but my favorite is the chorus, especially the part that goes “So right, so right.” That entire song is frickin’ amazing.
