What's Your Favorite Movie Soundtrack?

I purchased The Royal Tenenbaums Official Soundtrack recently, and I am enjoying it mucho. Hence, this topic. What soundtrack is your favorite? My criteria includes not just the quality of the individual songs, but how the director fitted them into the movie.

So, what say you?

[SUP]Full Disclosure - I’m a fairly young guy, and the only two soundtracks I own are the aforementioned Tenenbaums and Phenomenon, so I’m working off a fairly limited list here. So, Dopers, I appeal to your vast experience and superior taste.[/SUP]

Pulp Fiction has a great soundtrack, as does Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino knows how to make a really good soundtrack.

Aimee Mann’s Magnolia soundtrack is incredible.

Some other ones:
Almost Famous
Empire Records
High Fidelity, naturally.

I don’t know if these count, but A Hard Days Night, and Help are classics.

The Tenenbaums Soundtrack is on my to-buy list right now, by the way.

Profondo Rosso by Goblin. The soundtrack to the film by Dario Argento. Best soundtrack ever.
A friend of mine (who hasn’t seen the movie) compared the sountrack to a cross between Tubular Bells and Theme From Shaft, and that just about sums it up.

Selmasongs (from Dancer in the Dark) Horrible movie, great music. Assuming you’re into Bjork, that is.

Of course Rushmore, if you like the Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack. It’s a lot more upbeat, though – I thought the Tenenbaums soundtrack was just depressing.

The Big Lebowski. A pretty diverse selection of music, including Yma Sumac, Bob Dylan, and Moondog.

The Saint is a decent electronic music sampler, although it’s probably already out of date.

I love Snatch. It’s got a little bit of everything - electronica, ska, 80’s hits, oldies. It’s a great party CD.

[butt-head]Huh huh dude, she said… huh huh huh huh[/butt-head]

Good Will Hunting, if only for Elliot Smith, American Beauty, Great Expectations (bad movie, GREAT soundtrack), Out Of Sight, and I’ve always been strangely partial to the soundtrack for little-known Ben Stiller flick (not a comedy) Permanent Midnight.

Total Recall.

Third Man and Kiki’s Delivery Service, High Noon among many others.

Another vote for Jerry Goldsmith’s “Total Recall”.

Also, Goldsmith’s “Under Fire” and “Planet of the Apes”. And “Chinatown”, “Alien”, “The Omen”, “Star Trek The Motion Picture”, “Russia House”, “L.A. Confidential” and so many, many more.

“The Missouri Breaks” by John Williams. And the “Star Wars” scores too, of course.

“Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”, “Witness” and “The Man Who Would Be King” by Maurice Jarre.

“Marco Polo”, “Days of Heaven”, “Frantic” and “The Mission” by Ennio Morricone.

And many other scores. So many, so little time.

I like Jackie Brown, love that old soul.
My favorite is ‘Something Wild’ though. Unfortunately I only have the albym, and my turntable doesn’t work too well anymore.

Jackie Brown is certainly worth a listen, but instead I went out and bought Bobby Womack’s Greatest Hits. Very good stuff.

My favorite soundtrack is from “The Harder They Come.” Lots and lots of great dub and reggae, including the title tune, “Sitting Here In Limbo,” and my favorite cut “Pressure Drop.”

The Matrix has a great soundtrack which fits the movie perfectly. I’ll second all of the Tarantino soundtracks too.

and naturally Amadeus

I’m still listening to the soundtrack from O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Blues Brothers

**Pulp Fiction **

and to recall my high school days:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

“Dude! That’s my skull!”

Here are a few good ones I haven’t seen mentioned yet:

Get Shorty
Repo Man
Pump Up The Volume

THE MISSION. Ennio Morricone’s score is haunting, exactly right for this wonderful film.
And O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU ain’t bad either!

O Lucky Man
The Harder They Come
and…
The Rutles

At the moment its the soundtrack to PI

That Aphex Twin guy is real crazy I tells ya!

La Dolce Vita. Though I have to be careful not to listen to it while I’m getting ready for work in the mornimg or I’ll walk out with two pounds of eyeliner on . . .
