I got a DVD player for xmas and only have 2 DVDs so far. What is each of you’s favourite?
Right now, probably the Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition. Best $25 I even spent.
Tombstone
I could put this movie on a continuous loop and never get sick of it.
UHF, especially for the price, is one of the best for the movie and all the features you get with it.
As for another “bag for the buck movie,” I just got Dogma: special edition at Best Buy for only $15.
Any of the Something Weird discs are awesome. They always have loads of cool extras for obscure weird movies.
The Velvet Goldmine, it isn’t all that great a movie but it has one of those scenes the still frame feature of DVD was made for.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has a lot of really cool extras as well as three different versions of the film, as well as being one of those movies you can watch over and over.
FOTR Extended Edition.
Though I only have 3 DVD’s in all.
By the way, my DVD collection is here.
I can’t possibly narrow it down to just one.
My List:
Fellowship of the Ring, extended edition.
Longitude.
Tombstone.
Man in the Iron Mask (because Jeremy Irons looks goood in this).
The Princess Bride
The Usual Suspects.
Babylon 5.
Favorites of the Kids:
Ice Age (love the extras).
Road to El Dorado (the animated one)
Atlantis: The Collector’s Edition (lots of extras)
Emperor’s New Groove.
Snow White (mostly for the extras)
Harry Potter
Favorite? I’ve seen this word many times, but I don’t really understand the concept
Since I find it very hard to pick favorites, how about I give you the ones I watch the most instead?
** Empire Records**
** X-Files: Fight The Future**
** Go**
** Disturbing Behavior**
Seems like it’s a popular sentiment, but I can’t choose an untilmate favorite. My top five:
-
Clerks: Uncensored; Besides being the funniest show to only last six episodes, the commentary tracks are hilarious, something you should come to expect from a Kevin Smith DVD (In fact, all of Smith’s movies have fabulous commentary tracks. Get 'em all.)
-
Léon, The Professional; One of my favorite action movies
-
Se7en; Good commentary track, great movie
-
Run Lola Run; Insightful commentary, and I find it rather amusing to watch it with the English voice-over track.
-
Back To The Future; Haven’t seen it yet, but I’d pay obscene amounts of money just for the movie itself. The extras are just icing on the cake
Hope that helps
$15? I just spent $30 today for that same DVD! My fault, I suppose, for not shopping around first…
Anyway, I’m rather fond of my copy of the Revolutionary Girl Utena movie (even if the case is a rather shocking shade of pink). And my copy of the special edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And my copy of the extended edition of FOTR. Looks like Dogma might be joining that list too.
I can’t narrow it down any farther, I don’t think. I can’t afford to buy many DVDs, so almost all the ones I own are ones that I like a great deal.
Oh, that’s hard to say. I am just starting to build my DVD collection.
I guess that “Last of the Dogmen”, “Pride and Prejudice” (1996), “Gosford Park” and “Local Hero” would be listed, for starters. I’m also excessively proud of my “The Hire” DVD, which has the 1st season of BMW Films on it.
“Local Hero” is in DVD!? I have never even seen it in VHS. All I have is what I taped from Bravo. (At least there are no commercials.)
A few DVD faves: “Hope and Glory,” “The Right Stuff” and “When We Were Kings.” Oh, and “Willow.”
Like most others I can’t narrow it down to just one so these are my top discs
Society - 80’s Horror/Splatter movie with the most bizarre, surreal final 30 minutes I’ve ever seen in a movie
Fight Club, Die Hard Ulitmate Collection (1,2 & 3), Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition are all great movies, the DVD’s have great extras and the sound is fantastic when I crank it up
Friends series 1 - 8. Never fails to make me smile
Gosh, it’s hard to pick just one, since every DVD I buy is a treasured favorite. I guess the DVDs I watch most often are Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Phantom of the Paradise, and the Extended Edition of FOTR. The DVD I own with the best features is Pink Floyd’s The Wall, with an excellent and insightful commentary by Roger Waters and Gerald Scarfe and two documentaries, plus the movie is kickass in its own right.
easy pick
Fellowship of the ring Extended Edition
in most movies the extras are boring but in FOTR’s extras there are alot of jokes and funny comments (especially the ones about the little indonesian dudes that doubled the hobbits :)). and 4 discs for only 25$? At second place i d say Pulp fiction and the matrix , not that many extras but the movies just rock
Oh, and the new 2-disc edition of Jackie Brown. Not only does the movie rock, but the extras include trailers from many of the films that Pam Grier and Robert Forster have been in.
Check out www.dvdeastereggs.com , UHF has more than most, but alot of dvd’s have hidden stuff.
Check out the making of UHF, people were actually dropping by SPATULA CITY to shop and were pissed that it was closed.
My favorite would have to be OINGO BOINGO, the final concert from the Universal Amphitheater, it ROCKS.
unclviny
Currently it’s Buffy, Season 2. Great fun to watch and there are almost 20 hours of entertainment.
Favorite movie is currently Almost Famous.
PunditLisa and I are in agreement.
I also recommend ** Boogie Nights ** (the bigass version, brilliant extras) and * Fight Club. *
