You didn’t care about the character’s in The Shawshank Redemption? Come on, even Brooks?
Yeah, Brandy; I like Star Wars when I was eleven. And no one’s discounting the cultural context of the film; only the film itself. Two separate discussions.
I was specifically thinking of adults’ reactions when I made the comment, not children’s. I don’t think it’s really a separate issue because the hype comes from the reality and the cultural impact that a film has in its own time. To judge solely by what we have seen in the 65 years since GWTW for example, is unfair. Something that was totally cutting edge 30 years ago might be very dated now in a lot of ways but that doesn’t mean the hype was wrong, it just means it’s worth viewing with that in mind, to appreciate it for what it is worth.
Feh, I’ll drop it, but I believe I’m correct.
Shrek has been mentioned quite a bit. I agree. I just couldn’t get into the movie.
Other movies I find overrated:
The English Patient - Yikes, this movie was boring.
The French Connection - I was disappointed. Sure it’s gritty, but that’s about it.
The Dear Hunter - I guess I was expecting more with this one. I mean, the movie’s ok, but I don’t get how it won so many Oscars**
Better books.
How do you know?
