I have a fairly large comic book collection - mostly Marvel / DC Comics stuff from the mid - 1970s through to the late - 80s (and some early 90s stuff.) Extensive runs of X-Men and Avengers. In good to near mint issues. I have held onto the collection for sentimental reasons, but lately I have been wondering if it’s time to cut the cord on this part of my youth. Also…I could use a few extra bucks.
These are the oldest issues in my collection - a few of 60s era X-Men issues. As you can see they are a little bit frayed, but IMO in pretty good shape for 40+ year old comic books. What would your opinion of them be? Would they be worth anything?
X-Men (Vol. 1, #29)
X-Men vo. 1 #39
X-Men vol. 1 #44
I know they’re old books, but they are actually in terrible shape. Not really worth anything.
I’d want to see the insides, but if you brought them to my store I’d probably take pity on you for bringing me something other than 90s Spawn comics and offer you $15 for all three if I didn’t already have some in the back issues room. They aren’t particularly rare, and the covers look kind of beat up. So yeah, not really worth much. If you price them on ebay, remember to check the prices of what it actually sold for instead of the dream price the lister is asking. You really only get into the big bucks on the first 1-10 issues of that series, assuming good quality.
That said, comics prices these days really just depends if a store/collector wants it. Your best bet would probably be to call a local shop and see if they’d want to buy the bulk lot. If someone called me and said, “I have many 70s and before X-Men,” I’d actually give them the time of day, even though they still probably won’t like the final estimate.
