What's Your Space IQ?

10/10 but the ion engine question was a total guess.

8/10

I was completely confident of all the ones i got right, and equally confident about the ones i got wrong.

I missed the one about ion engines, and the one about organisms surviving in space.

Well, the question did only say that “the basic premise” of teleportation was sound.

On that note, has anyone ever read the work of Lawrence M. Krauss? He has written books called The Physics of Star Trek and Beyond Star Trek, in which he discusses the physics (and the possibilities) behind the stuff we see in sci-fi movies.

In one of those books (can’t remember which, but i’m guessing the first) he has a long and very interesting section on the physical theories that underly the idea of teleportation, and a rather amusing explanation of what sort of equipment would actually be required to make such a machine work.

10/10 and I don’t even like astronomy!

10/10

Way too basic. We need a real quiz done by some of our expert Dopers, like Angua, Chronos, CalMeacham, and BadAstronomer.

I’d bet they could make a good quiz!

9/10, missed #7.

since it implies that moving a vehicle beyond the speed of light is impossible, does the phrasing also imply that moving a vehicle at the speed of light is possible? or am i just reading too much into it?

10/10

I noticed several people missed the ion question. This is surely because Deep Space 1 got almost no publicity. I don’t understand why. I would think people would find that really interesting. Maybe if Laci Peterson had been on board…

9/10, I also thought for sure some form of simple extraterrestrial life had been found. How old is this quiz? :dubious:

10/10, and I’m only a buff! :stuck_out_tongue:

still, some of my responses were guesses, and the teleportation one was worded so you might think they were actually thinking of beaming Kirk up, so I wouldn’t feel bad if you got that wrong.

8/10

I knew about all the “extrasolar objects” discovered around other stars, but I thought it was still being debated whether or not these are actually planets.
