I just played in a charity game in Utah tonight and we got our asses kicked by the Wheelin Jazz. How the hell do these guys turn so fast in these chairs!! It’s crazy. I had to pretty much stop to turn when they were turning on the fly!
They gave us 40 points to start and won by 25!!

Amazing, isn’t it? I knew some wheelchair basketball players and they were just beautifully graceful off the court. Very fluid and very, very fast in those chairs.
I once followed up a WC B-ball game with the players in an Irish pub. Those guys were bouncing their chairs up and down the three steps to get in and out of the pool table room! I was amazed! They also ate corned beef pizza. :eek:
A guy I knew lost both legs just below the knees in Vietnam. Tim was damned fast in his chair.
A college friend of mine played wheelchair b-ball in high school, and arranged for traveling teams to play there a few times. The players from the Division I basketball team sat in wheelchairs and played them, and of course, the wheelchair players kicked their asses. I’ve been impressed with those athletes since then, and I look forward to having a chance to write about wheelchair basketball in a couple of months.
