When did Female-sung dance songs start getting commonly referred to as "pop bangers"?

As in “Miley has moved away from pop bangers to a more dialed down feel.”

The term doesn’t feel particularly new, but these days it seems every article on the topic I read has to include the phrase.

When did pop banger become on fleek?

ETA: argh. Reported to get thread auto correct adjusted to “commonly”

I’ve heard “banger” in reference to songs for probably 10 years now…and I personally don’t associate it with a female singer at all.

I’ve never heard “pop bangers” but I don’t read or listen to much having to do with that topic. I have heard and used “pop-tarts”, though.

Fixed the title for you.

I’ve never heard the term pop banger. Is this a commonplace term?

Thank you! A quick Google turns up a variety of Vote for your favorite Pop Bangers! type of links.

Rick Kitchen - I dunno; I am coming across it n my reading so I thought I’d ask.

Not commonplace yet … I hadn’t run across it until this thread :stuck_out_tongue:

First time I’ve heard the term. But I’m old and out of touch so that proves nothing.

I did do some googling and it appears while pop bangers are predominantly sung by women, it’s not exclusively so.

I’ve heard the term “banger” used in dance music going back a couple of decades.

Perhaps my buzzword radar is off. Entirely possible. Yeah, definitely banger for a dance track for a while. And yes, across genders. I guess I am thinking I’ve seen uses where it’s used in a “fierce” sorta way to give an edge to a pop singer like Charlie XCX or Katy Perry.

I listen to more than my share of Top 40 music and I’ve never heard of “pop bangers” before, though they sound like they’d be delicious with a side of mashed potatoes and onion gravy.
