When did Monty Python become geeky?

We could burn her, bury her - or eat her!
AUUGH!! I’m a geek!

Monty Python had its first run on Canadian TV when I was in junior high school. Those are the prime geeking years, and I had all my favorite sketches memorized. I and my geeky friends would act them out, with the accurate accents and voices, or as close as we could manage.

Yep

What I like is how you can learn to mindlessly um… parrot… the sketches as a yoot and yet still not get all the subtle bits until you’re well out of school.

Well, here’s Elvis’ VCR, with his 1974 copies of Holy Grail and Godfather.

Ah. Interview with Elvis’ Stepbrother.

David Sillito:
Chris in the UK asks: Elvis had a bit of a sense of humour didn’t he?
David Stanley:
Absolutely. If you couldn’t laugh, you couldn’t work for Elvis - it just wouldn’t happen. His favourite movie was the Holy Grail, Monty Python. We sat in a theatre many, many a night and watch that movie - we only had about 12 people in the theatre because it was just us. He loved the Holy Grail - he would watch it time and time again and he’d just laugh and laugh.

He was a practical joker - he was always pulling jokes on the guys who worked for him. We were always wrestling in the hallways, always in the backyard playing football - always upbeat and fun and laughing. He always said - when it ceases to be fun, then quit. All the guys around Elvis sometimes would say - hey this is a tough tour, I’m tired etc. and he’d always say, it could be worse - you could have nothing. He said, we’re so blessed we have so much and we’d sit down and just start laughing - telling jokes etc. or watching Monty Python. The guy loved Monty Python.

I see your point. Actually, I have heard of that but, where I live we don’t have that kind of showings, AFAIK. They must be fun though. All I have seen is the movie on DVD and I liked it a lot.

About Elvis, having a good sense of humor and liking Monty Python just made him even cooler in my book. (I’m thinking of becoming a fan now).

I would like to say that I find sports-geeks far more annoying than Sci-Fi or other geeks. At least Monty Python and HHGG are supposed to be entertaining, but quoting incessantly game averages and hits, and whatever is just dull. YMMV

Sports-statistics geeks approach trainspotting levels of geekdom.
