On one of the pages when I clicked New Posts and was rerouted to the page that says you need to wait so many srconds. At the bottom of the page was an ad that said. “Join to meet bored housewives” and pictured a buxom brunette with a low cut shirt on. My only complaint is that this is not something I want advertised on the Dope. Maybe this is a regular occurance I just now noticed. Anytone else noticing this?
Maybe it’s an ad for a book club? :dubious:
Even I am not that gullible:p
I’ve never seen such an ad, even when ads come up for me (when I’m logged out). And it came up on the “You must wait x seconds between searches, try again in y seconds” page?
ETA: I mean, it only came up on that page?
So far that is the only time I noticed it
I think I know the ad you are talking about. While it is tasteless and maybe even salacious, it is not porn.
It’s also all over the place, including Facebook.
Sites like “Ashley Madison” run such ads.
We have zero control over the ads that are run on this site, with one exception: No one wants ads that have malware in them. We occasionally get one – it’s a continual problem in the industry and we’re always on the lookout for such bad actors. Management will always do their utmost to track down those rogue ads and remove them. Otherwise what you see is what there is. Without ad sales we wouldn’t be in business and then what would we do?
If you were a subscribing member to the Straight Dope you would see no ads on the message board at all. You would also have the satisfaction of knowing that you had directly done something to keep this place in business, which we very much appreciate. It’s $14.95 a year well spent. Please consider it.
ahhh, it’s a cheaters site. As long as it doesn’t route to nekkid hardcore I have no objection.
I demand to know why I’m not getting the porn ads! I’m a paid member – please, no comments – and so if anyone gets them, it should be me.
I think I may have gotten it because the ad bots have pegged me a “Bored Housewife” LOL
I saw an ad for “women who can’t say no” whilst reading through one of the recent threads on misogyny. I was briefly tempted to mention it, but it didn’t seem appropriate at the time.
Haven’t seen that one since, but I have seen other “dating” site ads.
Wow.
I would like to lodge a complaint that even though I use Adblock plus and never see an ad anywhere, ever, on the internet… let’s get rid of the misogynist ads and replace them with sexy house-husband ads instead!
If a woman writes about the opposite sex, it is called “erotica.”
If a man writes about the opposite sex, it is called either “misogyny” or
“porn.” I don’t receive any of these items because I don’t open any suspicious
links.
I am fine with SDMB adverts because I am NEVER going to pay money online
to anyone. I am one of the 150,000 folks who have been burned by Pay-Pal.
If SDMB wants a membership fee, they can send me a USPS box number or
a legit street address.
Have you been satisfied with the companies services so far?
If you want the “special membership option with porn ads”, you have to pay twice as much as that!
Most sites don’t. I’ve seen ads for Newsmax and WND on progressive/liberal blogs.
Need to keep sampling the stock first before I can make that decision
There’s always a catch.
It’s hilarious how they misinterpret keywords. Participating in an atheist thread gets you Christian dating site ads for days, I’ve noticed, but the dating threads steer me toward male potency drugs rather than dating sites. The adbots do better with cookies…
Yum, cookies. I’d like to get ads for cookies
