When do you delete a quoted post?

In this thread apparently someone who wants to be a one of those harsh, judgmental, comedians calling themselves **quid.lucrum.istic.mihi.est **[What is in it for me] says something harsh and unhelpful and unfunny.

But it is quoted twice by solid members to react to it - which is how I know about it- because it was deleted.

As Parental Advisory asks in the thread:
There must be a good reason to delete user ID quid.lucrum.istic.mihi.est, usually they’re just banned aren’t they?

I thought that too … I can see deleting a thread started by a Troll or even a single foul NSFW “fecal conjugal panties” high school kid post - that was ignored by the general discussion …

But how is the decision made to delete an ugly, stupid but semi-on topic post that other posters quoted?

Probably a sock.

It’s really best to e-mail a mod with such questions.

jimmmy, for years now, the administrators and moderators have eliminated posts from those who were determined to be socks. Further, for years now, the powers that be have asked us not to ask questions about it in the forum, but rather email a moderator, in the hopes that the sock won’t gain any sense of accomplishment.

Thanks both I appreciate the answers given in an open spirit if in supercilious tone.

Really though I am not asking about the banning or the reasons behind it I am asking why they deleted the entire post when it had already been quoted. That seemed odd or even a little ill advised to me.

We do our best to eliminate any prescence of a sock. Usually, that’s just deleting their posts; but that sometimes causes a hole in the space-time continuum in the form of a hiccough in the logical flow of the thread. We handle each situation as circumstances warrant: the goal is to erase the existence of the sock, while not disrupting discussions any more than we have to.

Sometimes, that means killing whole threads. Sometimes, it means deleting the sock’s post and any quotes or references to that sock. Sometimes, it means just deleting the post and leaving the quotes. In short, it varies based on the individual circumstances, how many posts, how many quotes, how long the thread is, how disruptive the removal of additional posts would be, etc. And, probably, on how late it is and how grumpy the moderator feels.

I’m closing this thread because WE DO NOT WANT DISCUSSION about banned folks. Why would you NAME the sock, specifically, and call more attention to it???Do not feed trolls or socks, please. If you desparately need information, email a moderator.
