If you live in a place that has crickets, at what time of year do those crickets start chirping?
The ones we have here in Montreal don’t seem to start until the end of July/beginning of August. They go on until at least the beginning of September, perhaps a bit later. When I went to New Jersey in May I was surprised to be hearing their crickets already.
The second half of August, about 2 weeks before school starts. It always seemed like natures way of saying, “Summer’s over. Are you ready for school? Do you have your supplies? Is all your summer reading done?”
They are something to listen to while trying to walk on the marbles that are large oak acorns…
…acorn fight…!
As soon as it’s dark,or they get inside and somewhere the cats can’t get to them! Then, when it’s October,we have swarms!! They stink and make some parkinglots slippery. Google Texas cricket invasion.
Starting about now in August, until frost, which is usually end of October/beginning of November. The speed of their chirps slows down in cooler weather, so by the end of October there’s usually one lone cricket going chirp…chirp…chirp.
