However, it won’t last for long. All the guys who wear tights at Ren Faire report the tights rub off all their leg hair after a couple of weeks.

Spectre of Pithecanthropus:
Look, people, “effete” does not mean “effeminate”. From Dictionary.com :
lacking in wholesome vigor; degenerate; decadent: an effete, overrefined society.
exhausted of vigor or energy; worn out: an effete political force.
unable to produce; sterile.
Wiktionary does give “effeminate” as a secondary meaning, but that’s almost certainly a case of incorrect use forcing itself to be correct.
Hear, hear. “Epicene” would probably be more appropriate.

rigs****Spectre - Well, I’d heard it used in the context of being effeminate, though for some reason I’d always associated it with more of the poncy type of effeminacy, as that of a fop.
.
Well a fop does fit the idea of ‘effete’ pretty well, but might not be effeminate as such.
True, although I’m not sure it makes much sense with mantyhose. If epicene can be used to describe clothing I think it would have to be something commonly worn by both genders, like jeans.
