Actually my post was a little glib, but I like the OP because it’s a gun owner broaching the topic that the stereotypical good guy with a gun is sometimes a good guy with a gun and an elevated BAC, which implies that sometimes the good guy with a gun is a great guy with a gun who might have an elevated BAC and be a little depressed, or be a really fabulous guy with a gun and an anger management problem and either an elevated BAC and/or a habit of self-medication, or maybe even be an absolute prince among men with a gun and an undiagnosed mental illness and an elevated BAC, or the guy you would absolutely choose as your best man with an elevated BAC and a little bit of a mean streak and grudge against his neighbor or boss and co-workers, or the finest guy you ever knewwith a gun and an elevated BAC and/or some other substance in his blood who has some long-term resentments taught him long ago by his racist grandparents, long-suppressed but recently reawakened by participation in grotesque websites telling him that his shortcomings are really the fault of the minorities who are somehow cheating him.
This post is not anti-gun, mind you. It’s pro-lock. Many locks appropriate for locking gun lockers or cabinets are made in the U.S.A. So those who disagree are ipso facto anti-American.
Not to hijack, but get the surgery. I had mine done about a year ago and it is well worth it. You will also notice that besides the lights getting better you will see just how cloudy your vision was. Plus I’m now 20/20 at distance, so only readers for me.
Maybe even clear enough to not accidentally pick up a six pack of Smirnoff Ice Screwdriver again.
You said the shotgun (I’m guessing) is by your bed. How convenient is your handgun? You have it on you at all times when you are home?
Driving and being armed are two things I just don’t want to do any time I drink; even one beer or a glass of wine. I probably don’t have to be that strict about it with myself but there it is. And any time a firearm isn’t under my direct control (on me/in my hands or cased in on a vehicle) its probably going to be locked in one of the safes. Again, overly safe but I just like doing it that way.
So what do you use to open your beer cans?

Hey. Drinking is great. Playing (your firearms sure ain’t work tools) with guns in fun. Having just enough self-awareness to announce that you don’t consider yourself trustworthy with a gun if you drink, but will keep drinking, lock up your guns, and keep the key, is a fucking four-alarm fire.
You’re either lying to attract people who might be sympathetic to your hinted tendency for self-destruction, lying to tease people who might be sympathetic to your hinted plight of some hypothetical victims, or telling the truth about a serious situation but still withholding information that might save someone’s life.
