When is a Gay Politcal Rally not a Gay Political Rally?

How about when it has absolutely nothing to do with LGBTQ+ rights at all, is promoted by the Log Cabin Republicans and there are Many more straight people than Gay people there:

How can you have a “Gay” rally and not have any rainbow flags??

Well obviously, it’s because the attendees were RICH WHITE gay MEN, where the rich, white and male outweighs “teh gay” as long as you pay up.

And that’s probably the reason for support as well, they’re supporting as rich white guys who don’t want anyone else to get “theirs” and figure their wealth will insulate them from any actual consequences if Trump is elected. Which may not be wrong.

Kinda like a number of fellow Jews I know, who are all about low taxes and preserving wealth, and to a lesser extent, Israel-first issues, who put up with the Christian Nationalism because they figure they’ll still be safe.

Of course, in BOTH cases, they seem to be the minority of both LGBQT+ and Jews, and I strongly suspect that they’d find themselves wrong about their assumptions that their wealth will protect them - oh, maybe not right now, but if Trump wins and finishes gutting our rule of law, there’s a Nehemiah Scudder in our not-too-distant future I’d bet.

I went to several like that in the early 1970’s.

You went to a gay rally that didn’t have rainbow flags back in the early 70’s way before rainbow flags symbolized the movement?.
Not surprised, but that has nothing to do with why this particular group didn’t have them.

I’d hypothesize that the Log Cabin Republicans, while being gay, would see things like a rainbow pride flag as being a symbol of a liberal gay agenda, and thus, don’t care to use it.

The Log Cabin Republicans don’t realize how much they don’t matter to the political party they are pandering to.

I went to the Log Cabin Republicans website and they are almost violently against transsexuals, while at the same time stating that they are establishing their goal of making the Republican Party more inclusive.

The RW agenda: advancing society at the rate of maybe 1 year every century. Maybe. Unless somebody gets scared.

Make America Gay 90s Again!

Probably. They certainly have effectively zero impact on the GOP’s policies towards LGBTQ+ people.

OTOH, to the extent that GOP leadership even thinks about the Log Cabin Republicans, the group might, hypothetically, be seen as giving the GOP a fig-leaf of plausible deniability about their attitudes and treatment of gays: “We aren’t homophobic! See, there’s even a Republican gay group!”

It makes me wonder what percentage of Log Cabin Republicans are actually gay.

Shades of Dean Browning, the black gay guy.

For them, LGBT means “Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Trump”.

There’s also this from last year:

The article opens:

Last month, the Log Cabin Republicans, an organization that claims to “[represent] LGBT conservatives and straight allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality,” announced that far-right commentator Isabella Riley Moody had been named to its 2023 class of Outspoken Ambassadors.

The choice of Moody to serve as an ambassador for a gay conservative organization was rather unconventional, given that Moody is a virulent homophobe who brags that the word “f*ggot” is part of her “everyday vocabulary” and wishes that the country was a more “homophobic society.”

Again, I don’t think any of are all that surprised in a MAGA world, that the loyalty to Trump is the only factor in declaring a group’s worth or identity. What it theoretically stands for, and is supporting isn’t even on the table anymore. It’s about paying your way into Trump’s good graces. Like how the party of Christian Nationalism pledges fealty to the most godless, sinful man imaginable.
