Then we’re well underway.
That’s my point, any war between the western powers and the US will try to exacerbate the tensions in our society. Russia has been doing it to great success.
I agree. I’ve a BIL that voted for that idiot. He thinks the insurection was bad, but probably now thinks the Cap police caused it. I’m sure he voted for him a second time because he can’t vote for evil democrats, and can’t just stand aside.
This lady seemed to have decided that enough was enough when her neighbors showed up. (Link contains video of a woman who gets in a standoff with ICE over her DoorDasher and succeeds in shouting them down.)
They want to be fascists, but don’t want to be called out on it.
My BIL a very nice fellow that has been quite sucessful in his life. I like doing things with him. Very smart and well spoken. And has no problem getting his hands dirty working on things.
But he was an oil executive. CEO at one point. And someting tells me that there may be a bit of something else lurking under the surface. Same with one of his two son’s. One, another oil executive said “Onlly fags wear Levi’s.” He was wearing I guess Wrangler jeans or something. I was too stunned to even respond.
The other son is a musician. Not a Kid Rock type though at all. Exact opposite.
Sorry, I just will never agree with statements like this about Trumpists. They cause death and suffering and just because they can be affable doesn’t make them a nice person.
Oh, I know. It’s just weird. My wife (his sister) did send him a very strongly worded letter. But Trump supporters are completely and totaly blind to the crimes right in front of their eyes. It’s stunning.
I guess that’s a little more than Susan Collins furrowing her brow.
I don’t my BIL’s position anymore. He lives ~ 1000 miles away anyway.
That Reddit video is horrifying.
Yeah I cut my sister and her husband out of my life on January 6. It helped that I lived in DC and the day was feeling an awful lot like 9/11. I told her I can’t reconcile her beliefs with my ethics and by joining a white supremacist movement, she was saying, in essence choose a side, and I choose them over you.
So you’re saying she chose white supremacy?
If she did that, she chose bigatry and racism over you and the UNITED States of America.
It’s right there in the name UNITED.
But once people get to that point, they have already gone over the edge. It’s sad, there is no belay that can pull them back.
Trumpism is white supremacy. She chose fascism.
It is, but I am so proud of that lady. She almost gave in to fear, but her anger was stronger.
Hey, maybe yesterdays Ford episode is somewhat of a turning point….. Prepotent billionaires offending blue collar workers (maga foot soldiers) never bodes well.
Butterfly effect and all that.
(the sacked worker is a UAW member) Ford might be in a pickle
With regards to what exactly? The public’s tolerance for law enforcement? There are at least two sides to these issues and I doubt that the majority of the US public is in favor of a variation of the Heckler’s Veto with regards to enforcement of democratically enacted laws. So, while there is quite a vocal and visible set of protestors I am not sure that the current environment is going to lead to a rebellion. The federal government has a tremendous amount of tools they can leverage to disincentivize protests if they truly wished.
Furthermore, protests and even outright rebellion have been a feature of the US since its inception, as an example see Shay’s Whiskey rebellion. The difference between then, the 1800s, the labor vs capital battles, political unrest in the 60s, etc. is that there is literally 24/7 non-stop coverage designed to maximize engagement and/or attention.
Could you tell us more about the example (singular) of Shay’s Whiskey rebellion?
I’m sure you have Wikipedia. Point being, there will always be laws unpopular with a subset of the population and reactions to said laws has often led to escalation of force in order to enforce said laws.
I believe he was implying that …
The two – while related – were separate incidents.
Oops. I mixed them up in my head. Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps I should check out the wiki myself. ![]()
I think both of these are happening. As much as we want to see more direct action against the administration, what I think is that they have their way to approach that saying that ‘Democracy is not for sissies’. A good number of people do stick to the rules and while they tolerate the current state of affairs, they are waiting to toss out the rubber stampers in congress at the right time.
