When is it OK to use substances for fun?

Aside from the obvious, like making sure you’re safe and the people around you aren’t affected negatively, I would add that it’s important you don’t let it interfere with your responsibilities or ambitions. If you’re drinking instead of studying, it’s not OK.

Something of a tangent, but I thought this was interesting. LSD, not just for fun anymore.

I haven’t finished the article yet, but I might consider volunteering for one of these trials, assuming I can even find one, and it’s nearby.

Obviously, in this case, I think doing drugs is just fine. (And honestly it’s a shame that people get so hung up on ZOMG! DRUGS!!eleventy!! that it hinders research into ways that these things can be actually useful instead of just recreational. I mean, hell, even Vicodan can be trippy.)

True enough. I don’t think I addressed the legality issue in my post; I have no problem with legalizing all drugs and having their manufacture and distribution regulated and taxed. Say, a cabinet in the liquor store where you can buy your weekend pharmaceuticals along with your booze (of course, the US would need a different distribution system since they don’t have the same regulated system of booze distribution that Canada has).

Tuesday.

Can qualify as harm, sure. But it’s a difficult rubric to use, because other people can have their own Issues-with-a-capital-I over drugs, even legal ones. Say I have a Mormon sister in law who’s incensed with me for drinking a single cup of coffee every day. My problem or hers? My drinking coffee might look like it’s creating conflict in our relationship, but most people would agree that she’s the one who’s out of line.
