When is the most affordable time to visit...

By “most affordable,” I mean the best deals on airfare and hotels, and if there’s a cheaper time to eat out that’d be handy knowledge as well. The lowest total price for trip expenses.

New York City: my wife and I spent 10 days there in late December/early January, and we’d love to go back. And now we’d like to go back – and spend less money doing so.

London: I was in London back when Thatcher got ousted and haven’t been back since. I’d love to go again. What’s the most reasonable season?

Anyone with budget-stretching travel knowledge, please check in. And anyone who wants to know about a different place, ditto.

Since you’re kind of asking for other people with similar questions to add to your thread…

I’m wondering when the best time is to buy the cheapest airfare. In other words, two months before the date of travel…one week before travel…six months? Also, what day of the week is the least expensive on which to travel?

I don’t know about London or NYC, but I can tell you that now is a really inexpensive time to visit South Carolina  .
