Okay, I can somewhat sympathize with someone so poor that they are willing to take a risk to get some free gasoline, but was someone really stupid enough to try lighting a cigarette?
The area is not poor. Working class. It’s basically shit amounts of civic sense. However at least the news now is saying that most dead are other motorists. Apparently, the thing blew up.
I saw something similar a few years ago. It was not a fuel truck then but rather a large trailer carrying Coca Cola bottles. They poor police officers were having a devil of a time trying to keep people from taking the bottles.
If there is video, I’ll bet it’s horrific.
The difference is Coke doesn’t ignite when you light a cigarette.
I was talking about stealing things which are not yours. And a cigarettes a theory, the others is a spark from a passing car.
When I was in college, I worked overnight Saturdays at a self-serve gas station outside of Kenmore Sq in Boston, where a lot of clubs were located.
People used come from the clubs shitfaced and try to fill up with cigs in their mouths. I never banged on the window cause I figured they’d throw them, lit, on the ground. Just kept my finger on the fire extinguisher button. Nobody ever lit themselves up. But fuck.
I’m not sure which is more horrifying to watch, those of the aftermath, or this one* from before there was an explosion. It makes you want to yell at them all.

Well, I certainly was right.
Yeah, I wonder how many of the people walking around in the second video were the charred bodies in the first one. Just awful.
Where I live, some young people got badly burned, by smoking cigarettes after sitting around sniffing petrol.
Utterly tragic.
So was it oil, or gasoline? The article references an oil tanker, but then also petrol. If it was oil, how did it explode?
And those charred bodies…brrrrrrr…
Eons ago I was involved in a car crash that really tore up both vehicles. Both of which began leaking fuel; one pretty heavily.
This was in town, so naturally a crowd promptly formed. Many of whom were smoking, since that’s what 2/3rds of adult America did every day all day without thinking. Smoking, breathing; it’s all the same to them.
They didn’t set the vehicles on fire, but they tried. Which would have sucked since it took a long time for the fire dept. to finally arrive and then to cut somebody out of the wreckage using their mighty 1960s tech.
“Inflammable” means “flammable”? What a country!
Petrol. And half a dozen theories on what might have caused it. I have to be quiet now since it turns out one of my partners (in another city) is the Counsel for one of the involved corporate parties (I know nothing, but safe than sorry). She is going to be busy.
