I know nobody knows, but I was wondering if historical precedent suggests an approximate time. I’ve been thinking that maybe my next phone will be some kind of smartphone-thing, but I’d rather wait for the “lessons learned” product. Any guesses when I can expect a second generation iPhone to hit? A year? Six months?
I don’t have an answer but I’ve been agonizing over this for a few weeks now. On the one hand, I’m dying for an iPhone, on the other hand, I want to wait becuase I assume the new gen will be on the 3G network, will have a real GPS and will probably have MMS as well as flash/java support as well as a slew of other things. I’m concerned about buying an iPhone now and having iPhone2 come out in three months and having to buy a new phone. So right now I’m between buying one now (now as in like within the next few days) or just getting a new battery for my current phone and not renewing the contract, just staying month to month with it. Another question would be, do we assume it will still only be available to AT&T, since I’m on Verizon.
They’re releasing an SDK for the current iPhone soon, so third-party support for Flash and Java will probably be available on the original iPhone quickly.
Really, I thought I had read somewhere that with the SDK they told the programmers not to program anything that needed Flash or Java since it won’t work on the iPhone.
Is it safe to assume that with upgraded software just recently being released for it, and the SDK coming out very soon, that there won’t be a new iphone for a while. Like atleast a year?
In November, the CEO of AT&T announced that a 3G version of the iPhone would be released sometime in 2008.
At the time, I read articles speculating on why the AT&T CEO made this announcement, because he knew fully well that it would cause sales of the current iPhone to tank. (I know that I, for one, was on the verge of buying one but am now waiting for the new version.) One pundit suggested it was meant as a message to Steve Jobs, to say that AT&T can afford to piss him off.
