No, exhibit two is Evita.
I’ve learned to lie and say I like Band <X>. If I say I don’t, I’m going to hear an anthology of Band <X>, on the spot, while my friend stares at me, waiting for me to “see the light” like John Belushi in Blues Brothers.
TWENTY FIVE WHORES IN THE ROOM NEXT DOOR! TWENTY FIVE FLOORS AND I NEED SOME MORE!
Don’t be knocking the Sisters Of Mercy.
Have you heard the Scissors Sisters’ version of this? It’s like the Bee Gees did an uptempo Euro-Pop remake. (Typically people who love Pink Floyd hate this remake; I like them and the song.)
Pfft, George was carrying John & Paul…
Generally speaking, I’m a live and let live kind of person musically. You like what you like and I won’t be upset. I love the Beatles, you don’t? No biggie.
That said, I cannot stand the sound of Rod Stewart’s voice. It makes me want to stab myself in the ears so I don’t have to hear it. I cringe if I’m somewhere and something by him comes on. Loathe his voice.
So I’m relating a story to my officemate about being trapped at grocery store during some schlocky love song grated out by Stewart and said, “Someone needs to put that man out of his misery.”
She gave me the Death look and said, “I love Rod Stewart. I’ve seen him three times in concert.” And got a half hour lecture on his Greatness as the Best Singer Ever.
Yes I have…and that parenthetical is why…I loathe the original…people who love it loathe the remake…that makes chances good I’d like the remake.
And I do. Don’t love it, but it’s enjoyable.
I’ll always be a Rush fan, but I laughed my ass off when my friend Jim told a carload of diehard Rush fans that Geddy Lee looked like Witchie Poo.
MAN do I hear you on this one. It makes me laugh (sardonically) when people say it has no ‘beat’. What they REALLY mean is it doesn’t have a predictable repetitive, relentlessly obvious beat pattern. The internal rhythms of just about any piece of ‘Classical’ music exceed almost any piece of popular music in complexity. No BEAT? None of this would be possible without ROCK solid rhythmic foundation- IOW, beat.
I like a lot of pop music too, BTW…
Oh- and to reply to the post-
U2!!! It seems like it’s socially illegal to not ostensibly LOVE U2 in my neck of the woods!
