Somewhere in one of the religious straightdope articles, i read believe i read that the bible was written some 40-60(?) years after the crucifixion and that stuff. Can anyone clarify for me or atleast answer the question ‘when the bible was written’?
I thihnk this is the column you are looking for:
Alright thanks
Im readin up and brushin up on my buybull history and whatnot
The Bible is not A book with a single author – unless you consider that God is the author and the human beings were his (Holy) Ghostwriters as some of the more stringent evangelical Christians do.
The various parts of it were written at a variety of times between about 1300 BC and 150 AD (in round terms). Two of our SD Staff members with some expertise in the field wrote a five-part report on traditional and scholarly views on the authorship and dating of the books:
[ul][li]The Torah[/li][li]the “historical” books of the Old Testament/Tanakh[/li][li]The prophets and wisdom literature[/li][li]the New Testament[/li][*]deciding which books are “in” and out, and why Christian groups differ on the contents[/ul]
Okay, reading all these articles and trying to decipher the information to answer my question is a bit hard. (Besides, im doing damn WASL testing and school this week and i just got back from a soccer game a couple hours ago?
(revised question)
When were the teachings of jesus and all the stuff he did written?
Also… Whats with Adam and Eve vs.evolution anyways…?
Adam and Eve vs evoloution? Evoluton won.
Now, go do your homework.
Well, make up your mind. Do you have time to read the stuff, or are you going to ask more questions?
Really short answers on dates (and you must realize that there are scholars who dispute some of these dates vehemently–pushing both for earlier or later dates), following Kümmel’s (Feine’s, Behm’s) Introduction to the New Testament:
Paul’s letters: 48 - 60 (to the churches)
Mark: 64 - 70
Luke: 70 - 80
Acts of the Apostles 80 - 90
Matthew: 80 - 90
Letter to Hebrews: 80 - 90
Letter of James: late 1st century
John: 90 - 100
Revelation: 90 - 100
I Peter: 90 - 95
Jude: end of 1st century
I, II, III John: 90 - 110
II Peter: early 2d century
“Paul” to Timothy and Titus: early 2d century
For questions on Adam and Eve vs Evolution, you’d be better to open a second thread with a specific question. Are you looking for the “truth” about Creationism or Evolution or whether the Creation narrative is myth (in the anthropological sense) (or who regards it as such) or who views it as fact? Or do you have a different question?
i will make new thread for creationist/evolutionist thing
