When the fake ID's just not good enough

ok here’s the situation…

I’m flying to Orlando, Florida from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. Now I’m 18 years old and I’d like nothing better than to sip one of those fine airline beers from the drink cart on the flight down. The problem being, I’m 18 years old. But hope is not lost…here’s what I’m thinking…let me know what y’all think.

Will flying to Orlando from Chicago involve any flight time
over Mexican air-space…it doesn’t seem like it, but then again I’m pretty ignorant of air travel practices. My theory is we might just pass over the Gulf of Mexico, which although being more or less American territory, I’m sure Mexico has boundary claims to it, which would techincally put us in Mexican air-space…now does that mean I’d be under Mexican legal jurisdiction? Because then I’d be in like Flynn with their relaxed drinking laws.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

You might be over international waters, I don’t think you will be in mexican air space.

Your second problem is trying to convince them of that.

You won’t be going over any Mexican territory (unless there’s some really weird air currents that day that they want to take advantage of), but you will probably cross international waters. On a vessel over international waters, I’m pretty sure that things like legal drinking age are subject only to the regulations of the captain of the vessel… However, those regulations typically correspond to those of the vessel’s country of registration. In other words, if you’re chummy with the pilot, he might be able to slip you a few brewskis legally, but he almost certainly won’t.

even if you were flying over mexico, they don’t have to serve you if they don’t want to. think of it from the airlines point of view. there not stuped. just do what i do. get a plastic bottle and fill it up with the hard stuff of your choice (mine being macallan 12 year) and ask the flite atendent for a glass of ice. never had any trouble yet.
