Ok, so I used “fat”, as an insult. That was wrong of me, but I was angry at the time I posted the rant. I wasn’t attacking fat people in general. If you had read my rant carefully enough you would have seen that his obesity wasn’t the issue. It was a symptom of his behaviour, and his behaviour was what I was critising.
And what gives you the right to imply that I am skinny and that I am bulimic? That I’m a slut and a stupid slut at that? What about all those bulimic girls who would be offended by your comments? What about all the “scrawny,” Dopers that would be offended? Why is it that you are allowed to use those insults, but I can’t even use the word “fat” once without someone like you jumping on me?
I don’t deserve all the slander. You don’t even know me. You base all of your opinions of me on one post and you think that makes you an expert on how I think.
Give it up already.
Erm, cazzle, I didn’t think it was a personal attack, and similarly you seem like a decent bloke to me - I really do just get annoyed that some words seem to get leapt on with real gusto, and two fairly innocuous rants should receive the sort of vitriol that the OP has gone for.
There’s also the sheer unfoundedness of this rant, such as when Redboss claims that

You might be a person of shining virtue who is loved by all out in the meat world, but in here, you are pixels on a screen. If you write funny posts, you will be considered funny. If you write wise and discerning posts, you will be thought wise and discerning. And if you write hateful posts… Get it?

Very good point to make I think. Certain insults are already intolerable here, such as the aforementioned fag word…calling someone else a fag doesn’t reveal underlying contempt? What if this person is gay, is it then insulting? Yes, because if you’re using it you’re implying that it’s a bad thing. Same with ‘fat.’ A big tip-off is calling someone “fatty” instead of “selfish pig” which is obviously more appropriate. Using the word advertises the feeling you have toward it in the same way that "goat-felcher’ does…“ewwww.”
So why advertise it? Expecting nobody to comment on a word like “fatty” is way too much to ask, especially here. I’d fully expect to get insulted in return.
This always confuses me. As you’ve done me no wrong, I have no cause to insult you, but if I did and I chose to insult you I would probably choose an insult that was reflective of the cause of my annger. Or, I might just let the whole thing go.
That seems a reasonable and appropriate way to handle things. Polite even.
However, you don’t have any right to tell people what they can and can’t say. I find it rude that you would presume to censor me or someone else.
How they choose to exercise what good taste and courtesy they have, or the lack of it is really up to them.
Their is no specific property of being overweight that gets you to tell other people what they may or may not do.
“Fat” is not granted an exemption, any more than any other disparaging adjective.

I don’t think that I used the term “fat” as an insult in my thread. Not the most scintillating and pointed complaint, but my whole point was he was being an ass and somehow he ended up using his weight as a weapon. Fat is not an insult I use, there are many more exciting ones to use!! Fat can be descriptive and if using it as such makes someone feel uncomfortable then I think it’s their problem not mine. I tried to set the thread up to indicate that I DON’T see fat as bad…taking too much and not bieng considerate is…threatening me because you are sensitive about it is bad.
Calling me a “slut” or whatever is just ridiculous…you don’t know me at all and is completely false. Calling him greedy and saying he didn’t need all those damn donuts is accurate.
