When were you last on TV?

In the electonics section of the local Sears store, they have a camera pointed down the aisle which shows you as you walk by. I swear I must have been shown on that thing hundreds of times. Maybe I should ask for royalties…

Last Friday. I was on TechTV.

Do I win for Most Recent Appearance?

oooh, I don’t know Mr Bad Astronomer. I am currently on Australian TV walking by the background of a “vox pop” scratch lotteries commercial. That could be on at any time.

They originally asked me if I had ever won (or known anyone who had won) a substantial amount of money playing the scratchies. I did not, so they moved to the next person. By the time I came out of the bookstore they were filming, and I made a point of walking behind the person. I hope that is not included in my “15 minutes”.

Apart from that, it was about 12 years ago, when I was asked my opinion of an exhbition we’d been to as part of a school excursion.

1996 I was on TNT because I was the Connecticut Geography Bee championn. I didn’t make the final 10, which was the televised part, but they showed the national preliminary rounds and what we did all week and I was in those. The prelim coverage was funny because the kid next to me had just cried his eyes out after missing his second question and looked like a nervous wreck. As compared to me, also with 2 wrong and looking like I didn’t have a care in the world in my New York Giants hat.

Why does someone always beat me to the smart ass remarks??Of course in my case it wasn’t Sears, but Sams Club

In 10th grade, I was riding my bike alongside the Homecoming game parade, doing wheelies and taunting the other grades. One of my friends saw me on a local access channel. Another time I was in the local paper in the man-in-the-street section. The reporter asked me what I thought about gays in the military. I said I didn’t care as long as they could do their job. Now I would have said something more smartass, like “You don’t have to be straight to shoot straight.”

When I was 6 or so I was dared by a neighborhood boy to pick up a “mouse” he’d found under a car. Turns out it was a bat and potentially rabid. The airtime I got on the local news partially made up for the shots.

'Fraid not:

Last Sunday, local TV, Tenerife, doing that singing thing again.

OTOH, TBA, your appearance was presumably of significantly longer duration and larger prominence than mine.

1996: Interviewed for the local news following a public meeting on an environmental impact statement for which I was Project Manager.

Yes, I do still have the videotape!

I was on CNN Europe two weeks ago, being interviewed about our most recent report. My family recorded it and were able to give me feedback.

Apparently I look older than I am and have, unless it was the lights, a bald patch. They didn’t really pass any comment on what I actually said - it’s not like I was on radio, for Christ’s sake.
It was the lights.

About two years ago. A local news reported interviewed me about the opening of some renovations at our local high school.

Back in the 70s, I was host of a local TV sports call-in show, an hour and a half a day, five days a week, for a year or two. It was cable, but not public access, and I got paid for it. So if that counts, I probably have the most total airtime.

Other than very brief camera time on the quiz show for which I coach a team (the end-of-the-show handshake is a tradition and gets on the air), there was the time that I was on the local news back in 1997 or so. My part-time job involves working in a freezer, and there was a huge heat wave going on, so the local TV station was doing a fluff piece about keeping cool vs. having to work outside in the heat. I looked like a fool in my ski mask and with frost all over my beard, but it was fun.

This morning… at least, my voice was. But then I partially make my living as a professional voice actor.

[blatant self-promotion]Take a listen.[/blatant self-promotion]

Last face time on TV was 1989 when I was interviewed by a local TV station in Sudbury. Interestingly enough, I never saw the show.
I had my name mentioned on a HNIC broadcast about a year later.

1974 - Love’s Park, CO. Man-on-the-street interview. Never saw it. Probably cut due to the public drunkenness factor. But…my son and I were extras in Ferris Buehler’s Day Off. It makes me smile just thinking about it!

When I was really young, I was on the Happy the Clown Show.

Miss Teen Red Deer Pageant, 1987. hangs head

I was interviewed in the Edmonton Sun newspaper a few years ago, but sadly, no TV appearance there.

Summer 2000… MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” did a live episode from the auditorium of Michigan State University. I was going there at the time, and worked for the school paper, which co-sponsored the event. So, I got to be part of the crowd sitting behind Chris and John McCain.

I was visible if Chris moved his head in the right direction, since I spent most of the episode being obscured by it. Also, they used clips from that show in promo ads for a good six months afterward. You can see my shoulder in every one of them.

I could also be seen through the window on the Today Show once, in 1997. No Al Roker interview though. When I was a kid I won a contest to do one of those “Kid newsbreak” things for one of the local non-network-affiliated stations (WKBD, I think). It was about Mother’s Day.

I’ve now appeared on the local news in three countries. The third and last was for BBC South-East in 1998 to discuss, of all things, how Oxford United FC’s impending move would affect my standard of living. (They still haven’t moved, BTW.)

When I was about 12, I was on Hockey Night in Canada!!
