When will they actually canonize St. Laci?

Ack. Scott, not John. Sorry. I got a piece of brain lodged in my skull.

Well if their were scaping by, it’s not my type of scraping by.

They had a boat and a Range Rover, while I’ll sometimes eat a Slimjim for dinner.

Apparently my grammar suffers from my diet.

Try living in the Bay Area. Last night they LED the news with a story about people from all over the place that came to the memorial service. Some guy drove two days from San Antonio b/c he was “touched” by the whole thing.

Sure I think it’s tragic, but I wholeheartedly agree with the OP.

As for the TV movie: I’m thinking Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Vince Curatola as Prosecutor James Brazelton. Maybe Minnie Driver as Laci.

I’m glad someone did this, because I was considering doing it myself. On Good Morning America this morning I heard her called “America’s daughter”. If that’s the case, I’m switching to British mode! Yes, it was a tragedy she married an adulterous (admitted), apparently murderous . . . I’d call him a “schmuck”, but I know what “schmuck” means in Yiddish, and I rather like the things. . . . let’s stick with so-and-so.

I’m just glad that while my local paper did have a memorial service on the front page this weekend, it’s one I think folks around here might approve of a bit more: Fred Rogers.

She had nothing to do with anything either. Let’s stop worshipping people for marrying royalty or getting killed.

Ok, it seems that I’ll be the first one to actually come out and say it…Fuck Laci Petersen! Yeah, it’s tragic, whatever. We had 666 (oddly enough) murders here in Chicago last year, and not a ONE of them made the damn national news the way this trollop and her idiot husband did. Not to justify the horrific nature of the crime, but someone who’s as nice, and as pleasant, and as precious as Laci’s family makes her out to be, USUALLY isn’t a target for murder, truth is we don’t know what the hell happened once the drapes closed.

Not to say she had it coming, but what if…

Ok, she’s cute, rich, white, pregnant and dead, big fucking deal.

More over, I don’t give a damn about Jon Benet (probably did the poor creature a favor, kept her from overdosing in a hotel room after her looks and fame faded), Chandra Levy OR princess Diana for that matter, blah, blah, blah…

Trollop? What makes you think she was a trollop?

Are you seriously trying to claim that nice and pleasant people are not murder targets? Why proof do you have to back up this extraordinary claim?

Button Jockey–

Hopefully, you’ll be the LAST one to say it too. I agree with the spirit of the OP. This kind of story is way overdone. But “Fuck Laci Peterson”??-- just because the media are screwed up doesn’t mean you have to take it out on her.

When someone dies like this, it is really none of our business. We can’t do anything to help her friends and family now. Well, maybe we can… we don’t have to write things like “Fuck Laci Peterson” on public message boards where people who care about her might actually read it.

I hope hope hope that the trial judge keeps cameras out of the courtroom. It’s already going to be hard enough to have a fair trial.

Agreed. Let the girl’s family mourn privately. I don’t need to be a part of it, no matter how sad I found her death to be.

Also agree on the rich, white, pretty, pregnant thing. Journalism at it’s best, I suppose.

I think murdertainment works better.

“That’s murdertainment!”

 Someone actually said that?! A newsperson, or someone at the memorial? That is truly ridiculous. [obligatory]Yes, it’s very sad that she was killed, and her baby never born[/obligatory], but if she wasn’t so special that the whole country heard of her before she went missing, why the rush now, to fill the gap in everyone’s knowledge?

Re: Princess Di. I’m not going to argue about her relevancy, or lack of same. But I understand what prompted the dog-and-pony show that was her funeral: everyone on the planet, prit’near, had heard of her, and her death marked, IMHO, the end of a cultural era. (Again, not saying if that’s good or bad.)

But no one in this thread, nor (WAG) 95% of the “mourners” at the memorial, had heard of LP before she went missing. Even the ones who are shedding tears…where are the tears for every other person who goes missing and later turns up dead? There isn’t time to mourn every single person on the planet.

Ok, agreed, perhaps I was a bit harsh on the surface, but by that statement I targeted the coverage, not Laci, maybe more specific would have helped. Still, I’m not driven to be overly concerned about it, any more than any other murder, certianly it’s a tragic event to those involved, including the the Petersens, yet no more or less so than any other murder, and this is just not national news, it just isn’t.

-Xcheopis… It’s a negative descriptor, perhaps you would have preferred dingbat, or strumpet, do they necessarily apply to her directly? Who knows, it was a literary means to an end, no more, no less. Laci may have been just the nicest, sweetest, most caring person in the world, but in my experience with people, (12 years on the street in public safety, fire/police/ems) I tend to be a bit more cynical, and FTR, I’m standing by the husband being an idiot.

And also for the record, murder targets usually have more to hide than the facade they present lets on, real life isn’t like Law and Order, or NYPD Blue, where innocent people just standing around and are not involved with any wrong-doing at all get rubbed out.
(not to say of course, that there aren’t innocent bystanders, there are, but that’s not the focus here)
There are usually mitigating circumstances, not in anyway to condone the murder, yet they do exist, and it usually comes out in the wash, and for the most part, they are unreasonable responses to a given stimulus (i.e. failure to have dinner on the table when husband comes home from work, husband kills wife, it’s basic “if-then” logic)

(for a cite, I can gather up one or two of about 70 seperate cases that I have on file from previous investigations, and address the prime facie information with you, if you’d like)

This opinion, however does not address the murder of kids, that is a completely different crime, with a completely different set of circumstances.

Rocha is a white surname??

I was confused about this too–I was under the impression that, under California state employment laws, Laci Rocha Paterson would have been considered of Hispanic ethnicity. Just part of the massive confusion that is race and ethnic relations in America today, methinks.
