When you became a real life comic book superhero

You’ve heard the stories…

Classic example: Someone gets pinned under a wrecked car, and the rescuer get’s a flleeting moment where he/she gains the strength of a dozen people via adrenalin and lifts the car all by themself…

Anyone here had a superhero moment? It doesn’t have to be a “rescue” or herioc at all, per se. Just one unforgettable moment in your life where you tested the bounds of human physical endurance. Let’s hear your story.

Here is mine:

When I was about 18, my mom had a Chevy Cavalier station wagon. One day were going to go out, and the car got stuck in the snowy driveway.

I got out, and pushed while she revved the engine. IIRC we were pressed for time, so I didn’t have time to dig the damn car out. I spent a few minutes pushing with all my might, and didn’t move the car an inch…

then it happened…

I turned into The Incredible Hulk. I got REALLY really really pissed off, and without even consciously trying, I grabbed the rear bumper, and lifted the entire rear half of the car off the ground, gave a nudge, and it lurched out of the driveway.

I don’t know how high I actually lifted the car, but I can tell you the rear end was indeed not touching the ground. My mom and I both agree that the wheels were above the ground by circa 6 to 8 inches. She was inside, so she would have felt the drop impact. We were both stunned I did that. I was pretty scrawny at the time.

I’ve never had anything else like that happen in my life.

Long story which I don’t feel like repeating. I was in my second year of college, and found it necessary to get into someone’s dorm room. This was not a B&E; more in the nature of a rescue. The room had a balcony one full story off the ground. The wall below it was rough, so I managed to get foot- and handholds to raise myself high enough to grab the railing and pull up to the balcony. That would be a Spiderman moment.

I also had a Fonz moment once, in 7th grade, I went into sewing class, and for some reason, the teacher wasn’t there. The wardrobe where our half-completed garments were kept was stuck halfway open, and no one could move it in either direction. I stepped back, gave it a good kick, and it sprang open.
